Is this inappropriate dress to wear at a restaurant?
First topic message reminder :
Two women take to social mediato grab their 15 minutes to voice their disgust about restaurant chain Wetherspoons not allowing them to sit indoors and order food because management found they were inappropriately dressed.
But on the bright side, at least they got their faces and boobs in the paper.

She's just teasing the boys...has she no shame?? And look at that neckline...isn't showing skin above the twins is just as bad as showing skin below? What's the difference?

These girls may not be breaking the law, but they are not complying with the dress code the restaurant has in place.... nor I imagine any decent restaurant worth visiting.
Men would not be allowed in shirtless, or wearing bathing trunks, so these women are making a big fuss over nothing.
Perhaps next time they want to eat in a restaurant they will cover up, they may not have reason to display faux outrage and flaunt themselves all over the internet....but they may get fed.
They should probably wear a jacket at the restaurant and take it off when they gyrate on the dance floor later in the evening.
And I'm fine with dress codes. Assless chaps and a spiked dog collar are a little weird at the KFC, but fine at the gay bar down the street.
We have a thriving gay village in town, some of the best cafe's and restaurants are there...I have never seen anyone wearing assless pants in any of them .... thank God.

We have the Castro District in San Francisco, where nudity and lattes are a morning ritual.

But you might in a gay bar.
Or a gay pride parade.

So maybe people like the 2 in the OP should stick to gay bars then.

The difference is the west seems intent for the most part for women to play peek aboo with their dresses and bodies, it all about being 'sexy', more conservative cultures want to cover women head to toe, as Syl says why not go somewhere in the middle. What's wrong with nice clothes that are attractive, practical for the weather, your job, or social event while flattering the wearer without complete coverage or a piece of cloth just about hanging on here and there which I believe makes a mockery of the human form. As for the coffee and nudity why not they seem to stick to an area. Its more or less the same question as the vaccine make your own mind up how you want to dress but don't be suprised at the censure by other people and no I'm not envious.

Maybe, and that's sorta been my take from the beginning. There is a place for these outfits, and wearing them isn't trashy, but these are not outfits for every place.

I think that is the trend, with unisex clothes. Just find the most efficient fabrics and designs, and go with that...allowing, of course, for differences in peeing and other physiological differences that need to be accommodated.
I don't want to turn this thread to one more on unisex bathrooms, but...ya know... It solves the problem, at least as far as wardrobes are concerned. Get rid of sexual identity, and maybe the girls can get dinner.

That’s not what you said though, is it? You said you, as a man, need to be very careful about judging women based on clothing choices. Sounds to me like you censor yourself. That’s not “independent” that’s the very opposite.
But you keep denying.

I would think Maddog would be one of the first to acknowledge that tolerance doesn't mean kissing somebody's ass. Do I like the way these women dressed that day? No, as I said. But do I write them off as people on the basis of that? Of course not.
You don't have to pretend to think everything someone does is great in order to be tolerant. And you can be as judgemental as you like, if you're only stating your opinion.

What is it about society that makes women think dressing like that is appropriate or desirable, not everyone is caught up in it, after all.

Some people crave attention, dressing like that is one way of getting it.

Would you censor yourself on saying what you thought about a fat chick, if it was on a forum?

That's a good question. Maybe not, but if someone called me out, I would probably reflect on my comment and say that it wasn't very nice.
And if I'm being honest, if those girls were obese, I would say they shouldn't be wearing those outfits anywhere.

Saying something like "that a lot of skin for a pub with kids in it" is a whole lot different than calling them trashy and suggesting those clothes are ALWAYS inappropriate on women going out for the evening.
They aren't that different than the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders and we all know that God approves of their outfits because they wear it on Sunday after church.

I don't even think those girls had a lot of skin for a public restaurant. It's just that they showed skin on the bottom, where we're not used to it. I've seen as much skin topside, and nobody says a thing about it.
I think most people are thinkin' that gravity might do it's thing, and we'd have a wardrobe malfunction.

I didn't call them trashy, I said their outfits looked trashy.
You implied you were more tolerant simply because you reserve judgement, but tolerance doesn't mean you can't say what you think about what someone's wearing.

OK, I don't think their outfits are trashy. Probably not the right outfit for the venue, but not like wearing a meat suit.

They are cheerleaders, putting on a show, nothing wrong with that....nothing wrong with showgirls in the Lido Paris putting on a fabulously elaborate show either, they are dressed and performing appropriately for where they are.
Now if a Dallas cheerleader or a Lido dancer went to dinner dressed in the same outfits it would be trashy, but hopefully they have more class.

Seriously, would anyone be happy if their daughters/wives/girlfriends went out for a meal looking like that?
I worked in clubs when topless dresses came into fashion, hardly anyone wore them so it was a very fleeting fashion fad.
On the one or two occasions a female came into the club wearing one, they were sniggered and letched at, not the reaction I'm sure they were hoping for.
If I had a daughter I would hope she had more respect for herself.
i honestly think it just looks cheap, tacky and classless (especially for dining out). that being said, i wouldn't care and
i'm certainly not one of these stiff neck diners that would bother to complain

So trashy is sorta a factor of where you are, not what you're wearing.

Looking trashy you mean?...yes, at last you got it.
A woman wearing skimpy tops and a man wearing brief trunks on the beach is acceptable, going to a restaurant in the middle of town dressed the same isn't.
I would say people doing so look trashy, not to mention ridiculous, you disagree....though my guess is if a man walked into your favourite bar dressed like this you would have something to say to your mates.
