What makes this forum different to others is....
Other people may see it differently, but what makes this forum different to others for me is this.....
On every forum I have posted on (and I first joined the Mirror forum in 2007 and have been active on forums ever since) Newsfix is the only place where apart from the odd spat, the women get on great and the men argue like kids.
We women hold different views, we all live different lifestyles in different places, we feel just as strongly about subjects that are discussed, but we do it sweetly and serenely mostly.

There are no females trying to be 'Queen Bee' on here, everyone is far too nice.
Eddie is the only female mod/admin, she never tries to use that to gain one over on anyone, unlike lots of mods (of both sexes) on many forums.
Since I joined here (unbelievably back in 2015) I can only remember one woman poster who has ever joined here and trued to make trouble...and she isn't around now, all the others, whether they stayed or went, have been good posters imo.
I still wish posters like Sexy Mama and Fen would come back though, we girls get swamped by all the fighting men on here.

I like SM too; occasionally she visits. Fen was never a member under that name. Who tried to make trouble?
I was Cambridge, or 'Cam', because I was born in Cambridge, MA, before we (Wolf, Oriental Lady, Mogadishu and I) came to Sphinx's site, thence to SF, thence to here. Then I became Quill (and later, Original Quill). I think 'Fen' is a name of someone who changed when she got here.

Fen is Raggs, I forgot she isn't Fen on here, she has never tried to hide who she is or was, she has always been upfront.
What does irritate me a bit is when people who you know well, join a forum under a different name and don't let on, I find that sneaky.
I am Syl everywhere, well here and one other forum, I haven't posted anywhere else for years, two forums are enough.

Re: What makes this forum different to others is....
The four of us (Wolf, Oriental Lady, Mogadishu and I) came originally from FF, or femalefirst. It's one of the larger commercial sites, based in Ashton-in-Makerfield. Wolf is Wolf, on the east coast of Oz; Oriental Lady is a woman in Hong Kong; Mogadishu is a Londoner; and I am me.
We left FF and moved en masse to a site named Ministry, after a friend who was a colonel in the Royal Army. Eventually, that waned and we moved to ADO.
There we met with the group of refugees from the defunct Sky site. We got recruited by sassy over to Speak Freely. That closed, and we found this place. Been here since.

Yeah, I agree. I don’t always agree with you or other ladies here, but we don’t fight like the guys do.
I don’t think the women here have egos as big as some of the guys...

In my experience it's quite unusual for forum males to be more argumentative with each other than the females.eddie wrote:Syl wrote:Other people may see it differently, but what makes this forum different to others for me is this.....

I think this forum is more news oriented. Not like say Dogs where half the forum is basically set up for people to fight with each other over stupid shit. It's probably why you don't remember me on there. I would peek into the arms (I think) and see all that going on a head right back to the news section.
There were dozens of posters on that forum that I never spoke to because I had nothing to say to them.

Did we ever speak on there Maddog. I usually remember people I have had conversations with on forums.
You are right though that proper debates were few and far between on there. I didn't stay long.

I agree, the arguments on here are tame compared to some other forums.
Even though this forum is one of the best for discussing actual news stories, I do think the odd lighter or personal thread is always welcome.
News is news and often deals more in facts. Personal topics invite individual opinions more, I think that gives a better insight into how people really are.

"News is news"...BUT, it's all in how one frames the facts. Fox News might run a story: Trump cares for kids. Then, on MSNBC, you see how he cares for kids...using cages. It's only one example.
But I appreciate having a website where the truth comes through.

Well yes, the news can be interpreted in different ways and everyone can put their own slant on it, but there are basic facts that can't be altered unless one is lying.
A personal thread comes from the heart, not the newspapers.

I like this site, I like the American 'flavour'. My ex is American, we have a son together.
(My own site is nine years old this week, we have been celebrating the anniversary, I love it to bits but then I'm biased.)
My pet hates are cliques
and impulsive locking of threads in people's faces.
Other than that I'm easy and laid back and I don't break anyone's rules.
