Andrew Cuomo Is New York’s Richard Nixon
First topic message reminder :
Perhaps the biggest political scandal in America right now is playing out in New York, where Governor Andrew Cuomo is in a lot of trouble — and rightly so. The Democratic governor did not merely wildly mismanage his state’s response to the COVID-19 emergency, while netting himself a lucrative book deal and an Emmy. He did something worse.
In the middle of a public health emergency, he used his office to help one of his largest political donors shield itself from legal consequences as fifteen thousand nursing home residents died from COVID-19 — and then he and his administration underreported that death toll, helping the same donor.
We had been covering the story for months before it exploded this week. The scandal is a cautionary tale of hubris, megalomania, and corruption that left a literal mountain of preventable COVID-19 deaths in its wake. Now we are about to see whether a blue state’s democratic institutions can hold wrongdoers accountable, or whether America’s culture of impunity can once again protect the powerful from facing any consequences at all.
Amid a cacophony of demands for Cuomo to resign, the governor and his aides are frantically trying to cover up the basic facts of what happened, and that includes launching a Nixonian campaign of intimidation and retribution against Democratic lawmakers who have for months been sounding the alarm.
Two national news outlets today detailed Cuomo’s new campaign of retribution against one lawmaker in his own party who dared to ask questions about constituents and family members who died under Cuomo’s nursing home policies. Cuomo held a press conference to publicly berate the same Democrat, while another New York news outlet reported that other lawmakers are now facing threats.

This is a socialist publication, so take their bias into account, but those Cuomo boys like to play bully, and there is no doubt that putting all of those Covid positive patients into nursing homes was a disaster.

Charlotte Bennett, one of the women accusing New York Governor Andrew Cuomo of sexual harassment, on Thursday detailed multiple instances in which the governor allegedly made inappropriate comments, including asking her if her experience with sexual assault had impacted her sex life. Cuomo allegedly told Bennett he was comfortable dating 22-year-olds and was looking for a girlfriend, and asked her about her sexual relationships.
Bennett, who was the governor's executive assistant and a health policy adviser, told "CBS Evening News" anchor and managing editor Norah O'Donnell that during a one-on-one meeting on June 5, 2020, Cuomo asked multiple questions that led her to the conclusion that "The governor's trying to sleep with me."
"Without explicitly saying it, he implied to me that I was old enough for him and he was lonely," she said.

It's a Republican 'look-alike' argument. Pay back for when Supreme Court candidate Brett Kavanaugh was questioned by senators about his gang-rapes.
The problem with Republican 'look-alike' arguments is there is never any predicate fact. It's all for naught without a basis in fact. What they have in the Cuomo case is social banter, which depends on which crowd you're preaching to.

Doesn't it make the RW look ridiculous when they can't even come up with a pattern? What they are trying to pin on a Democrat is a habitual offense, when they can't even prove the habit. First, it's not that uncommon...some 81% of women have experienced sexual harassment. So, they've got a very common phenomenon that they are trying to find. https://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2018/02/21/587671849/a-new-survey-finds-eighty-percent-of-women-have-experienced-sexual-harassment
Second, sexual harassers are repeat offenders. One of the many major problems with sexual harassment in the workplace: It happens more than once. https://www.marketwatch.com/story/one-major-reason-why-sexual-harassers-can-continue-2017-10-21
In fact, that is one of the difficulties with sexual harassment. Donald Trump had many accusers. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_Trump_sexual_misconduct_allegations Sexual harassment is not a single pass. The EEOC has a policy of discounting a single pass (unless it is egregious) and writing it off as standard 'boy-girl' behavior.
https://www.marketwatch.com/story/one-major-reason-why-sexual-harassers-can-continue-2017-10-21
Add to this, the problem of standards. Misunderstandings abound. Only when it becomes habitual does it become an issue. It appears there are misunderstood interactions with Cuomo, that do not rise to the level of harassment. Misunderstandings, perhaps.
But given the charged political nature of his position, I tend to think Republicans are really beating the bush to find something…and they are failing, mostly because they are misunderstandings, or deliberately contorted situations.

Never. I reckon that is a privilege limited to Tories and Republicans.
Once again, anyone can call names...but proving it is another matter. Republicans have raised no tangible evidence of improper motives. They seem to be obsessed with incidents that in their minds look like Trumpian transgressions. Only, with Trump there is tangible proof; with Cuomo there are only could'a been's and look-a-like's...with no Access Hollywood tapes, no Moscow Hotel Pee-films, no Stormy Daniels pay-offs, no Non-disclosure agreements, and, most peculiar, no lawsuits.
Y'know, now that I think about it, this is the same illogic that Trump used to claim he was re-elected. He raised only could'a been's and look-a-like's to support his claims, and concluded this was actual proof of election fraud. Courts rejected his claims because there was no actual proof of the thing-in-itself.
And here with allegations against Cuomo, we have the same contorted logic being raised: could'a been's and look-a-like's. Is that what is taught at C-PAC meetings? Are they actually teaching anti-reason at the Heritage Foundation? Something has gotten into their Kool-Aid.

New York politics is complicated. There hasn't been an investigation yet. Obviously, any resignation is premature.
So far, the case is frivolous, at best. If they come up with something substantial after an investigation, we’ll look at it.

The Republicans are busy building the case. So far, all they have is suggestion and innuendo, which is what 'could'a been' and 'look-alike' arguments typically appear as. Better not to be stampeded, and wait for a careful investigation.

New York is actually quite a conservative state. There's New York city, and then there's the rest of the state. And Buffalo is more like western PA and Ohio than down east.

Why bother? It's just Republicans, doing what they did to Hillary Clinton (Benghazi), and Joe Biden ("just announce it, you don't even have to do the investigation...")...engaging in character assassination of the likely next candidate for the other party.

Nobody has said "groping" with regard to Cuomo...(they have with Trump). They are so far talking about greeting someone at a wedding, or conversations that make one party uncomfortable...but nothing we can all agree amount to sexual assault.
Would this be considered "groping"?
Or this, at a wedding:
It's ambiguous, at best.
However, when a man talks about "grabbing pussy" it's not ambiguous. So...there's a lot of difference between accusations against Cuomo, and accusations against Trump.
Yet, Republicans are making the case that they are the same.

The staff member, whose identity is being withheld by the Times Union, had been called to the mansion under the apparent pretext of having her assist the governor with a minor technical issue involving his mobile phone. They were alone in Cuomo's private residence on the second floor when he closed the door and allegedly reached under her blouse and began to fondle her, according to the source.

I'm thinkin'... Republicans are staying awake at night around Dupont Circle, and makin' this stuff up.
A lot of sexial assault victims like to remain anonymous.
And a lot of liars like to make up shit, and not reveal they have no proof.
Now we know Republicans live by the lie--how many lies did Trump tell(?)--or, didn't Republicans lie (WMD's) to get us into a war in Iraq? Didn't Reagan lie about Iran-Contra? It's so repetitive that it's boring.
So, I think it's a safe bet that Republicans are trying to pull the same scam about Cuomo, that they tried on Hillary, and they tried on Biden. It’s in the Koch Bros. playbook.
You play a magic trick too often, and the crowd gets wise.

"Rep. Kathleen Rice (D-N.Y.) on Monday evening called for New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) to resign, after a third woman accused him of inappropriate behavior."

"Don't repeat yourself, Maynard," were the words of Johathan Winters, in a skit. The point being, the repetitiveness is showing your desperation.
The long campaign of cultivated lies against 'the next Democratic candidate', worked for Republicans on Hillary (tho, she did get 3-million more votes than Trump). It didn't work against Biden.
It won't work on Cuomo.

"Gov. Cuomo has lost the confidence of the people of New York. Gov. Cuomo must resign," Nadler said in the statement.
Ocasio-Cortez released a joint statement with fellow progressive Rep. Jamaal Bowman also calling for Cuomo's resignation, citing the most recent allegation against him.
“The fact that this latest report was so recent is alarming, and it raises concerns about the present safety and well-being of the administration’s staff. These allegations have all been consistent and highly detailed, and there are also credible media reports substantiating their accounts," they said, noting that Cuomo is also being investigated for under-reporting the number of Covid-19 nursing home deaths.

Yeah. Like most men who assault women. That's nothing new.
