Scientists  can use carbon dating of fossilised wood, soil and bone to detetmine the prevailing  atmospheric conditions at the time they were laid down.

Cool. The only query they have is the effect el Nino  has on Carbonand CO2. It is hugely influential  on our year to year weather, which as we know has nothing to do with climate, which looks at trends over decades and centuries.
My gut feeling  that CO2 increases is caused by factory and fossil fuel emissions,  added to the shit put out from cars, busses and lorries,combined  with wholesale deforestation is the root cause. All man made or influenced.

Watched a program about tree's the other night, the amount of Oxygen they put out is amazing. We must stop the wholesale destruction of Forests around the World. I mentioned before how much Timber the Americans use to build their houses, no wonder they blow away so easily. I always feel sad when I watch a Tree being felled, Chain saws, the work of the Devil, some people call them, I tend to agree !

They won't stop cutting down trees, as timber is too important a building product...

What they do need to do is double the current rate of replanting and reforrestation..

And plant out the correct replacement spp.


One of the monumental fuckups of tree plantings in many regions during the 20th century was where many timber companies put down mass plantings of only the 15 or 20 most common commercial spp. that they were concerned with..   That resulted in lack of biodiversity, 'stranded' ecosystems, loss of habitat, and other "unforeseen consequences"..


Consider rhe recent devastating 'wildfires' in Portugal --  nothing natural about them :

*  Eucalypts aren't native to that country;
*  Most of those plantations were abandoned "investments" ==  fuckwit investors, corrupt taxation dept, idiotic governments;
*  The fuckwit local councils allowed houses to be built too near plantations, let trees grow up against roads, ignored the presence of those deserted plantations;
*  Their fire brigades are "urban" brigades --  weren't really prepared or equipped for wildfires (and not to knock the firemen themselves -- it's the authorities who weren't properly prepared..) --  meaning the Portuguese gov't will have had to move fast to update their responses...

And their problems were exacerbated further by drought, a flat economy, climate change exaggerating things more..


Smarter tree plantings,  more biodiversity;   more attention to erosion, soils, watertables;   more habitat restoration  -->>  which in turn means more carbon sinks  ==  more oxygen into the atmosphere, and more CO2 absorbed into the growing trees.

Methane  =  00.000179%

Nitrogen 78.084%,  Oxygen 20.946%,   Water vapour will be between 0.4% and 1% of the atmosphere as well..
