Re: Another huge rise in crime
In Manchester the increase is a lot higher than the figure you quote. Violent crime in particular has soared.
Huge cuts in police force, drastic cuts in spending, people not even reporting crimes, so criminals are free to carry on offending, general discontent amongst people, immigration with no means to supervise, kids dropping out of education and being barred from working full time.....lots of reasons.

Re: Another huge rise in crime
I watch a lot of the Police programmes, I can't believe the pathetic sentences that the magistrates and Judges give out. Just one example, a man stole a car, led the police on a 40 minute chase, knocked down a child on a bike, damaged 3 police cars and ended up embedded in the front of an house. When arrested he assaulted 2 police men and was found to be high on COCAIN AND HEROIN, NO LICENCE, NO INSURANCE, AND HAD BEEN ARRESTED 5 TIMES BEFORE. His sentence? TWO YEARS PROBATION, 6 POINTS ON HIS DRIVING LICENCE, [WITCH HE DIDN'T HAVE] 2 YEARS DRIVING BAN AND A FINE OF 150 POUNDS! There are hundreds of sentences like this. No wonder when todays criminals don't give a toss about the Law.

Re: Another huge rise in crime
Obviously nothing to do with the 20% reduction in police numbers, which in practice has resulted in the virtual abandonment of beat bobbies in many areas, to be replaced by casual plastic PCSO's, with no powers to arrest, detain, interview and charge.
On the other hand , it has EVERYTHING to do with it.
On the other hand , it has EVERYTHING to do with it.

Re: Another huge rise in crime
Morning Nick. Did you see that Norflolk constabulary are getting rid of 160 PCSO's and replacing them with 81 trained police officers and 12 backroom staff.
In my opinion a sound move as in general PCSO's cannot offer the service or value of a full time Constable.
It seems it is cost neuteal.
It was on LBC, cant be asked to look for a link, but I reckon they wont be the last to go down that route.

Re: Another huge rise in crime
YEP, saw it, I don't think PCSO'S give value for money, mainly because they can't arrest anyone,We need a visual deterrent, as you suggest more beat officers would help. I have not seen one around my area for at least two years! That's one of many things the Tory's are guilty of in the last few years. These comments may surprise you coming from a Tory supporter, but I accept they are making mistakes. [ I still think Corbyn is a disaster though]

Re: Another huge rise in crime
I know many Conservative supporters who think that hammering the police, NHS and Fire services with huge budget cuts was and continues to be a great mistake.
Ultimately, the voters will decide in the ballot booth. They did the same in 1997 after years of Thatcherism followed by the nonenity John Major.
In theae troubled and dangerous times, we need a massive increase in police numbers to ensure our continued safety, that excludes tracking and investigating criminals and crime.

I am not Corbyns biggest fan eithet. But he does connect with people of all generations.
Not convinced that every policy is well thought out or fully costed, but in his defence he is not for U turning, and he has some solid people keeping tabs on him such as the exoerienced Keir Starmer and Hilary Benn.

Re: Another huge rise in crime
I think he is as fake and phoney as the rest.
This country is in a mess...no one trusts the shower that is in and most lifelong labour supporters (including me) don't see any hope with Corbyn as potential pm.
What we do need, given the present climate of terrorism and rising violent crime is a police force able to deal with what's happening, and they obviously cant.
Like the NHS the police are now under immense strain, the head of GMP says the mood in his police force has never been lower, for him to publicly admit that shows the state the police are in now.

The Conservatives have been in power for 8 years now.
If they wanted to toughen up sentencing by judges, they have had plenty of opportunity, and until recently, a big enough majority to ease the new penalties without problem.
They took their eye off the ball and became too blinkered with Immigration and austerity.

Yes, its a valid point.
If not jailed they are free to carry on, if they are, after a scant few weeks or months, they will be out knowing more than they did when they went in.

Re: Another huge rise in crime
Prisons do not have the capacity to hold the number of prisoners who justify imprisonment. Too few spaces and too few prison officers.
And guess what, the prison service was hammerwd by austerity. Pay was frozen for 7 years. 20% of staff were made redundant and recruitment and retention is now a serious issue. And will remain so.
So whilst it is desirable to imprison more offenders for longer, it will not and cannot happen.
Unless we send them to european prisons.

And crime will continue to increase, especially race hate, all the time Britain allows fascist and neo nazi supporting apartheid South Afrikaans criminals to spew their hate bile on social media.

With the police working with half its force and more cuts to come, there is no pressure on thieves now.
Police have said they will not come out for common theft, so this is music to offenders ears, they wont be arrested, so just carry on.
Im disgusted the way this country has gone. We have lost our values, and will end up like some 3rd world country. No law, people taking the law into their own hands, no punishment, its becoming a lawless place to live. Police too frighten to go after immigrants incase they're called racist, its ridiculous.

I see that nobody is blaming the criminals...
Or the failed leftie/liberal 'soft on crime' approach that was allowed to grow under 13 years of labour, and continued for another 5 years because of lib dems being in govt coalition with torys...

Labour's greatest mistake has been to sideline Dan Jarvis. Just a thought from someone who is now too old and too tired to give a shit who governs the country.

Calm down ladies please. You are all wonderful and have value, don't let anyone tell you different.
Back to the op. Massive amounts of man power and money are tied up in terrorism fighting and investigating. The MEN enquiry alone is huge, that, together with cuts means another disaster waiting to happen.
