Monkeys genetically modified for healthier immune systems, metabolism
These are the first monkeys with customized mutations were just born in China, marking a new era in precision gene editing. (Read: bringing us closer to a Gattaca-like future where designer babies grow into perfect people that never get sick.) They are twins.
Working out of the Model Animal Research Center of Nanjing University, a team led by Xingxu Huang successfully engineered these twin cynomolgus monkeys(pictured above) to have two mutations: one affecting the regulation of metabolism and the other affecting healthy immune function. It's not the first time that scientists have created customized mutations—they did it in mice a while ago—but it is the first time that a primate so genetically close to humans has been involved. And these are exactly the kinds of mutations you might want to trigger in order to make skinnier, healthier humans.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if the Chinese (among others) had already done this experiment with humans. O Brave New World! Okay so they may create perfectly fit human beings; does that mean (like the book) they'd also create 'genetically modified' humans/hybrids with very low IQs to carry out the lowly jobs? After all the Alpha types wouldn't do them.
We all know what happens when humans try to beat nature, as in GM crops that will wipe out the bees: Disaster. I expect the same will happen with this latest experiment.

created stronger humans with the knowledge of how to make them weaker at a moments notice or just kill them off, a very Brave new world.

I would much sooner predict intelligent machines doing the lowly jobs -- how many people would actually stand for genetically engineered human slavery?

I heard exactly that in the 60s Veya, it still hasn't happened, in fact people are working longer and harder.

To be fair, so are the machines :D

What, why aren't people screaming about immigrant machines taking out jobs!

Bwahaha, probably because they're not Muslims. Though militant machine monotheism is surely still to come -- all this has happened before, and all of it will happen again

in the backward olde world countries.
NOT here in the Magic land of OZ
We have machines doing almost everything.
I have said before it is like Europe stopped adopting new tech in 70's

So no-one works? And machines do everything? Think there might be a bit of exaggeration there lol
And don't we invent the machines you use

umm no we run the machines. Machines are Not AI they don't think for themsleves.
Wood workers used to use hand tools now the use CNC routers
Rubbish trucks used to have humans putting bin, is it not there is robot arm.
Machines do a fair portion of the Physical labour
Farmers deploy drones
And We are world leaders in Automated Agriculture... other stuff we steal from USA, Germany or Japan
