last time i had new tyres on my van the tyre monkeys at a certain well known british tyre company used as per normal these days an air hammer to refit the stud bolts.....

Have they EVER been taught how to use one of those vile tools only suitable for demented car owner haters???

FFS....I went to remove a rear tyre in order to fix a stuck handbrake lever on the brake caliper

I had to stand and BOUNCE on a yard long cracker bar to get the fookers off....

now assuming I was just standing on it

I weigh 13 st (or in metric 82.55kg)
a yard is 900mm (near enough)

so the torque I was applying is 82.55 x 900/ 1000

(to get kg/m force) this is multiplied by 9.8 to get the figure 728Nm (newton meters...the unit for torque)

the RECOMMENDED torque is 150 Nm

I am actually surprised the studs didnt shear.... affraid

why cant these uneducated minimum wage waste of spacers LEARN that their tools are adjustable and can be set with remarkable accuracy when tightening. IT is OK to use em full blast to undo these wheel bolt ....It is NOT ok to use the same full throttle setting to put em back....bloody morons

(note for Eddie...you can skip the adding up bit of this post....I know it distresses you)

Erm okay. I’m glad you had your nuts tightened.
You are talking about nuts, right?

Those pneumatic guns should be used only to remove the nuts.  The mechanic should simply go to the tool bench and pick up a torque wrench to cinch them down to the proper torsion.
