Lefties Duped By "Why Socialism Works" Guide On Amazon
First topic message reminder :
Spare a thought for any socialists searching on Amazon for their summer reading. On the face of it, ‘Why Socialism Works‘ by Harrison Lievesley seems a sensible purchase for wannabe Jez fans. Most reviews are very positive, indeed the vast majority give five-star ratings. One calls it “a proper left wing economic primer”, another says “Absolutely gripping, I couldn’t put it down”.
Enough to convince budding lefties to order the £7.99 paperback. Cue disappointment when, upon taking delivery of ‘Why Socialism Works’, readers found every one of its 169 pages reads: “It doesn’t”.
Jane Collins was not impressed:
Truth hurts…

the top 3000 income tax payers in the UK pay the same amount of tax as the bottom 9million.
You've really answered your own question. The higher earning group get to live in a country/economy in which they can obtain, and enjoy such affluence.
The higher the quality, the higher the price. It's just the dynamics of any market.

Poorest pay higher taxes than richest, new figures show
VAT and council tax shown to disproportionately hit low earners but Conservatives refuse to rule out rises
The poorest 10 per cent of households in the UK pay a greater proportion of their income in tax than the richest 10 per cent, new analysis has revealed.
Officials statistics show the lowest tenth of earners pay an average of 42 per cent of their income in the form of income tax, national insurance, VAT and council tax.
In contrast, the richest 10 per cent see around a third (34.4 per cent) of their earnings go to the taxman, according to analysis by The Equality Trust.

Honestly Quill, I don't know why you bother to debate with particular people who have no intellectual capacity at all. Watch paint dry, you'd have more fun lol

no you haven't explained why it is fair that one group is expected to pay more than another.Original Quill wrote:Deano wrote:can you tell me what is fair about one group paying a bigger percentage of their income in tax, than another.

3000 people pay the same as 9 million people. Which group would cause the most problems to the country if it left. which group could leave most easily.

Recently Alan sugar paid a cheque for £58million to the tax man. How many low paid workers would be needed to pay that amount to the exchequer.

There was an interesting counter to this article here.
According to the article "the richest 10 per cent of households have an average pre-tax income of £110,632 per year compared to just £19,992 for the poorest.”
However, the original report on the Equality Trust’s website states that “Despite paying far less of their income in tax, the richest 10% have on average a gross income of £110,632, 10 times that of the poorest (£10,992)”. The earnings of the poorest 10% have been doubled by the Independent!
Assuming that the figures on the Equality Trust’s website are the correct ones, after council tax (7% of gross income) and VAT (12.5% of gross income) the poorest 10% of households are paying 22.5% of their gross income in income tax and National insurance. However, with a personal allowance of £10,609 in 2015-16, this household, assuming all earnings come from one sole worker, would only pay income tax of £77 and National insurance of £352. These figures will be even lower if more than one person has generated earnings during the year as will often be the case.
Even if you take the £20,000 figure reported by the Independent (In which case whether such a“household” would be poor would be dependent on definition — number of dependents etc — debt burden, child care expenses etc). Assuming that all of this income is generated by one person (rather than two or more household members) their income tax and NI burden would still only amount to about 15% of gross income.
This is generally very sloppy and only looks at pre-tax income. Nor is there any mention of whether the figure for the lowest 10% includes benefits received. A couple with two children and one working person earning around £10,000 would expect to receive around an additional £8,400 in child tax and working credits, in addition to child benefits and in many cases housing benefits. Any additional benefits they’d receive (DLA, Carers’ allowance, JSA etc) would account for a proportionately larger part of the lower 10%’s income compared with the higher 10%.
The Equity Trust should focus on the richest 1%, the segment of the population that is able to squirrel money away in offshore, pensions, EIS/SEIS schemes or dubious charities to avoid paying tax on it, rather than working families who despite being part of the richest 10% may well have large mortgages or multiple children with corresponding childcare costs (families with one person earning over £100,000—a level at which people start to pay an effective income tax rate of 60%, which is more than the “super rich”--do not qualify for this year’s big increase in free childcare).

easy because society benefits them more
if it wasn't for the way society currently is, I wouldn't be earning significantly more than average, so it is only fair that I pay more than average.
The police and army exist more for the benefit of the rich than the poor.
Face it, tax dodgers are the worst sort of scum stealing of every solider, nurse, child, all their fellow citizens. someone willing to steal from their nation should at least be kicked out lose their citizens ship to someone willing to pay taxes.
Also that is the exact reason that aristocrats where killed during the revolution that bought about modern civilization. an individual can only profit so much by abusing the social contract
