Schools exclude pupils after they refused to wear blazers in heatwave, claim parent
Britain is currently facing a heatwave, and parents have expressed concerns over children having to wear blazers in the scorching weather. Pupils have been sent home from Kingswood Academy in Hull and it is thought it was because they refused to wear their blazers in the 30C summer temperature. Three children have been sent home from the school for "rude and defiant behaviour" – which seemed to have originated when they refused to wear their blazers.
The mother of one of the children who was given a fixed-term exclusion spoke to the Hull Daily Mail about what happened.

Well many know my views against uniforms, but if this is true. This is rank stupidity by the school. If they are forcing this to be worn in the heat, based on imagine.

I'm not against uniforms, but there is usually a summer uniform and if not, then you can't expect people to swelter in this heat just because of a dress code.

As I say Horatio, if they are forcing the kids to wear, then they are not placing the welfare of the children, first here.

This is quite true, my grandson came home from School yesterday feeling ill, he collapsed on to the floor when he came home ! Said the teacher would not let him take off his Blazer in the Classroom. I went down to the School this morning asking to see this teacher, he would not meet me. The head came out, [pompous bastard] and loftily informed me that rules are rules. I felt like decking the prat, if younger I would have !!

It is exceptionally hot, so clearly the rules should be waived at this time.

I am an advocate of school uniforms for many reasons including selfish ones, but this is just nuts.

That's terrible Nicko. What an insane rule. I bet the teacher didn't have a jacket on in class.

IN most schools in Australia, blazers are only used for formal and official occasions, these days...
Most public schools these days will have some for official occasions, (that is, those that still have a school blazer -- not all do..) so that the school captains and vice captains, or some students representing their school at a formal official occasion, don't have to supply their own..
Even with those private schools that have a blazer as part of their regular uniform, you won't find the students having to wear them in warm weather -- let alone on hot days.
If people can't get satisfactory results from the schools over there, those schools should be reported to your education department..
If the education ministry won't come to the party, then maybe they should be threatened with some "workplace safety/occupational safety" complaints ??? Afterall, the schools are effenctively 'workplaces' for the students as well as the staff, aren't they !

Exactly Nicko, probably didn't want to meet you. Let's face it, how could he look you in the eye! Common sense was all that was needed by him in the first place.

One school let the kids wear gym kit. Seems sensible and it's still uniform.

most kids down here just wear jumpers, blazers are optional in public schools (some don't even have them), normally only the teachers pet wears them

Even some judges cast aside their wigs in court because of the heat....yet some schools insisted that pupils still wear uncomfortably heavy blazers in the heatwave.
