Boy, 9, dies from allergic reaction after 'eating fish and chips school dinner' at Islamic school
A nine-year-old boy died after suffering an allergic reaction to a fish and chips school dinner, according to reports. Police are investigating the sudden death at Al-Hijrah School in Small Heath, Birmingham, after efforts to resuscitate the youngster failed. The popular dish was served every Friday, but the boy allegedly had an allergy to fish. A spokeswoman for Birmingham City Council said it was looking into the circumstances of the boy’s death.
Paramedics were called to the Islamic school shortly after 2pm on Friday afternoon, where it’s understood teachers were struggling to locate his epi-pen to treat the reaction. A parent, whose son is in the same class as the boy, said: “Fish and chips Fridays is a weekly thing at the school.
"He ate lunch at about 12.30pm and at around 2pm the ambulance service were called and tried to do CPR but couldn't and he died.
"The teachers couldn't find his epi-pen.”
The pupil was rushed to nearby Heartlands Hospital, where he died yesterday evening. A post-mortem examination is expected to be carried out soon.
The school, which has 780 children aged four to 16, is funded and managed by Birmingham City Council, and although it is not a faith school all of its pupils are Muslim and the curriculum follows an Islamic ethos.
It was placed into special measures by Ofsted in 2013 after it was rated as “inadequate”. A month later the entire governing body was sacked over financial troubles.
Police also visited the premises over links to the "Trojan Horse" plot, when individuals working for the trust that once owned the school were said to have links with Muslim figures working to remove secular head teachers.
Two years ago, it was also at the centre of claims that it was sending money 5,000 miles away to fund a school in Pakistan while running up debts of almost £3 million.
This money, thought to be around £1 million, allegedly came from public funding earmarked for dining tables and chairs at the school, but instead pupils were made to eat meals on the floor due to a lack of basic facilities.

Its sad that this boy has died, and it does need investigating, as its very odd the circumstances, but the part I highlighted?
WTF?
Not a single non-Muslim and the teaching has an Islamic ethos?
This is why all schools should be neutral, with no religious or political affiliation.
How is this integrating Muslim children into society or any religious based school for that matter. When all the pupils are of the same belief and not mixed with children who do not follow that faith?
Why on earth do we have such segregated schools. If this was on ethnicity, people would be up in arms. Have people of the same beliefs, and its okay apparently. This is not teaching them how to live in a British society, but one removed from it. The law needs to changer, so all kids are mixed within schools.

Did he not know he was eating fish? I presume he didn't eat fish every week and that he knew he was allergic to it.
What a terrible tragedy, but I can't see that anyone was to blame really.

It does seem very fishy Rags, no pun intended.
If its eaten every week and if clearly he is allergic to certain foods, why would he eat them?
As they claimed he had an epi-pen.
It really does not add up.
Have to wait and see what the postmortem comes up ith

Just read this Rags:
People with a fish allergy might be allergic to some types of fish but not others. Although most allergic reactions to fish happen when someone eats fish, sometimes people can react to touching fish or breathing in vapors from cooking fish.
A fish allergy can cause a very serious reaction, even if a previous reaction was mild. A child who has a fish allergy must completely avoid eating fish. Sometimes an allergist can test for allergies to specific types of fish, but until the culprits are known, it's best for someone with a fish allergy to avoid all fish.
Fish allergy can develop at any age. Even people who have eaten fish in the past can develop an allergy. Some people outgrow certain food allergies over time, but those with fish allergies usually have that allergy for the rest of their lives.
If your child has been diagnosed with a fish allergy, keep injectable epinephrine on hand in case of a severe reaction. This is a medicine that your doctor can prescribe. Communicate emergency plans with anyone who will be taking care of your child, including relatives and school officials. Also consider having your child wear a medical alert bracelet.

About Fish Allergy
A fish allergy is not exactly the same as a seafood allergy. Seafood includes both fish (like tuna or cod) and shellfish (like lobster or clams). Even though they both fall into the category of "seafood," fish and shellfish are biologically different. So shellfish will not cause an allergic reaction in someone who has a fish allergy — unless that person also has a shellfish allergy.People with a fish allergy might be allergic to some types of fish but not others. A sad thing and totally preventable.
But why is this taxpayer funded school only having Muslims as pupils and not following regular syllabus...?

If he died from an allergic reaction to fish, why did it take 90 minutes plus?

Why would an abundance even be needed Nems?
Allergic reaction
Is it an emergency to slowly react over an hour Nems
Did he even have symptoms until later
Though I agree with you. Somethings is not right here.

This story even contradicts itself.
3rd paragraph : the ambo's couldn't perform CPR, and he died just after 2 pm.
But then, in the 5th paragraph : "..where he died yesterday evening." After being rushed to hospital ?
Go figure...
