Police Swoop On Benefits Street
First topic message reminder :

Does this debunk the myth that those on benefits are struggling? Should the police swoop on all of those on benefits, with an auditor?
'Black Dee' from hit Channel 4 documentary Benefits Street has been charged with drug and firearm offences - along with a further six residents of the notorious road.
Samora Roberts, known as Dee, 32, was charged with conspiracy to supply a class B controlled drug, conspiracy to supply a class A controlled drug (crack cocaine), possession of a Class A controlled drug - (diamorphine) and possession of ammunition for a firearm without a certificate.
Police have charged a number of people with drug offences following a series of raids carried out in James Turner Street, Winson Green, Birmingham last year.
The street is infamous after being featured in Channel 4’s highly controversial documentary.
The five-part series follows the lives of the residents on James Turner Street - where up to 90 per cent of residents are on benefits.
The drugs raids took place in June 2013 at a number of addresses in the street following concerns raised by the local community.
Following the warrants, a number of people were arrested and Class A and B drugs were recovered by officers.
After ongoing enquiries, seven people were charged on Wednesday with a number of offences and all have been bailed to appear before Birmingham Magistrates Court on February 6.

Exactly, but here I give meaningful advice and have it thrown back in my face for it with yet again swearing abuse!
That to me is someone who does not recognise there is a problem
I know Didge, I do worry about Phil tbh, he knows that too. Sometimes as a carer you have to put your own needs first, it can't be easy

Not taking a/the piss ( :D ) -- I actually do believe a TV and an internet connection are necessities in today's world.
Let's say someone wants to get a job and get off benefits. So where do they go to look for a job? Most jobs these days are advertised online. You have to have an internet connection, in other words, to be able to look at all the jobs available, and of course, you have to see as many listings as possible to have a good chance at getting hired.
Having a TV is important for knowing what's going on in the world and in your community, and business owners rely on the news all the time to let them know about business opportunities. Let's say a report aired about how public housing landlords are going to be forced to get rid of mold in their flats. If you know how to do that sort of work, you would be better-prepared and have the foreknowledge to apply for jobs at companies that do that sort of work, and to give a better sales pitch to the person interviewing you on how you could help their company.
TL/DR: You can't expect someone to jump into a first-world economy and participate without having at least some basic access to the same information the rest of us use.

Library and Job centers have access to the internet

You can still read about what is going on in the world with the internet or the newspaper, helping to keep also a time honored tradition, buying a newspaper or reading one down at the library, this also encourages people to get out more whilst unemployed, not being stuck at home. You really are just pointing to extreme circumstances of why it might be needed to have a TV. I grew without one growing up, we spent actually more time as a family together doing things, which helps in learning and having family time together, meaningful time that is, not sat glued to a tele. It also would help an encourage people to read with books which is no bad thing Ben
TL/DR: You can't expect someone to jump into a first-world economy and participate without having at least some basic access to the same information the rest of us use.
I can Ben and as seen we have lost sight of some things by the use of the tele and today the tele or the computer is used by parents as a means to keep children occupied, which in ways makes parents lazy to a role where they interact more with them

I think that you think we're arguing about different things when that's not necessarily true -- I argue only that access is essential, not necessarily that there must be internet and TV in every home. Though I agree, as Catman points out, these are relatively inexpensive things that can often be provided by some form of charity as well.

I am not aware of any charities that provide tv's or internet. In this country they are struggling to provide basic food and warm clothing.

I will answer this before I go.
Ben the reality is they are not a necessity, as you can have access to places that provide the internet which is where you can also watch TV.
So it is a luxury, nothing more, a necessity is something you need to live your life, in each case both are not essential, as you can live your life without them. To say something is essential when you can live without is thus rendered non-essential

Yes they are a necessity.
Lots of people don't live anywhere near a library and wouldn't be able to afford the fares to get there on £70 a week anyway, they certainly don't have TV's in them either, many have closed now was well, due to Tory cuts.

No they are not a necessity, is your life going to be damaged or your life in any peril if you do not have access to a tele?
No

No
Your mental health can be damaged if you are cut off from the outside world.
As has already been pointed out, you need access to a TV and internet to locate jobs and to be aware of what's going on in your local community and the world.

How are you being stopped from being in touch with the outside world without a tele?
That is absurd, as seen you still have access to other means that can inform you of the outside world of which not having a tele would encourage you to get out more

In this modern day and age you need access to a TV.
Where are people supposed to go to be more in touch with the outside world?
It's not as if they can go to a fucking community centre, is it? The Tory bastards have closed all of those.
There aren't any support groups etc, because the Tory bastards have closed all of those.
You have no fucking idea at all, you don't.

No you do not need access in the modern age.
So now you need to be in touch with the modern world sat behind a computer or in front of the TV, really?
You cannot do that by going outside and actually seeing the real world and whilst at it read the paper, or go to an internet cafe of library, of actually meet people face to face instead of chatting behind a PC?
So again you have no case or arguments.
Right really have to go

How does £70 a week stretch to paying for an internet cafe.
You keep banging on about libraries, where many have been closed due to Tory bastard cuts.
What if no one live anywhere near a library that hasn't been closed.

Why the hell must you have a TV?
Surely a free radio will do?
Blummin heck!
As for support groups - i'm sure yours haven't been touched, Mr Catman.

I feel the state has given him far too much money which has fed his alchoholism Didge. Strange how in one sentence he hasn't enough money yet can drink every day from 7pm.
You see its one inconsistency after another. BTW Didge Scatman always ends up calling you tory scum even when you try to be nice.
Might I suggest Scatman you get a job to stop drinking Iam genuinely concerned about your liver.
