Police failing to record "thousands of crimes"
Police are failing to properly record tens of thousands of crimes including rape, a watchdog has warned. Merseyside was one of four police forces identified by inspectors.
HM Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC) judged Merseyside Police as "inadequate" after finding that it records only around 84% of crimes reported to it.

Reported? Or confirmed? Could they not be voices in someone's head?

When a crime is reported then it must be recorded... this article shows am investigation finding that forces are failing to record reported crimes as they should be.
It's quite simple and straightforward Quill... I'm surprised somebody like yourself is struggling to understand...!?

Not as straightforward as you think. If it turns out not to be a crime, then it's a 'never-mind'. Lots of those...much ado about nothing.

which should show as crime reported...no further action
they Should record EVERY reported crime regardless.....if only because a "never-mind" may in future become a "mind very much"

Every initial report of crime must be recorded... this investigation finding is that police forces are failing to record large numbers of crimes reported to them.

No doubt with good reason.

No such thing over here quill
the job of the police in this matter is to record every reported crime
thats the rules....
they do NOT have the (legal) competancy to make the decision NOT to record, especially at the level one would expect the record to be made , I.E your average copper or maybe a sargeant
(theirs is not to reason why......just bloody record it)

They have to log all reported crime but there is a decision made as to whether to "crime" it or not. I'm getting DANs (detailed assessment of need) through that haven't been crimed. Logs don't show in the crime figures.
