Dedication to all parents ❤️
Today marks 14 years since my dad died.
Thought it would be nice to have a thread where we can share some warm and fond memories of our parents, who are no longer with us.
My dad was an optimistic person who always saw the positive in a situation. My favourite memories of us.....our competitions over who could make the best sandwich...teasing each other over which of us fried the best egg (he did)...watching him cry with laughter over my impressions of all our family members...him always asking me to sing his favourite, latest pop songs....his weird love of reggae and soul music (my black friends swore he was black)...his absolute love of children and his delight at the toys he bought for my son when he was little and laying on the floor with him and playing for hours...his devotion to my mum and the way he'd help any family member at the drop of a hat...his insistence, when I was a teen that "boys really do prefer girls who wear long skirts or dresses, you don't need to show off your legs!" (Hahahahahaha and I fell for that one!)....the way he cuddled me like nobody else and his "magic finger" that if wiggled a certain way, would make me giggle uncontrollably.....
I loved him and I will always miss him.
He was a great father. Not perfect, but perfect for me.

Thanks didge and Syl.... I'm sure he's exasperated with me sometimes - as usual!
Would love to hear your fond memories when you're ready to add them.

Re: Dedication to all parents ❤️
It's just passed my mums birthday, January 19th...she died 6 years ago, had she lived she would have been 100 years old last week.
My mum was just lovely, very quietand reserved but with a backbone of steel. Simply put she was my best friend, and I miss her all the time even now.
She had a very hard life....but she had a great sense of humour, like you said in the other thread Eddie about you and your daughter, me and my mum always 'got' each other.
I hope wherever she is she has found peace.

Syl that's lovely, that you can say she was your best friend! Not many mums and daughters have that sort of bond. I can't say that about my mum though I love her dearly. She sounds like a lovely mum, and friend, Syl. I bet you still giggle over some of your inside jokes x

Yes I do. She and my OH had a sort of love hate relationship...it drove me mad sometimes, but at the end of her life her affection for him showed through. My OH cried with me for ages after she passed. We often include her in our conversations now, and we laugh at some of the things she used to do and say.
You may not be best friends with your own mum, even though you love her loads, but you had a special bond with your dad and that will never be broken.
My dad was frankly useless....he left when I was 5 and I never saw him again....I'm so happy you had a dad in a million .x

Wow. She must've indeed been a special lady to make her son-in-law cry at her passing. How lovely is that?? That made me well up. Imagine what she'd have said if she'd known how much he cared...?
My mum and I are miles apart in nature, we have to always make the effort to meet in the middle. She's a great listener if I have a problem though, I have to say.
Ps: it's your dad's loss. Sounds to me like you didn't need him growing up with your best friend by your side x

Eddie, one of the greatest gifts in the world is being a good listener...to know someone is really listening and caring when you are troubled is very comforting. Actually your mum sounds great....I bet you and she can share a laugh together as well as your problems.
