Syrian conference at Hebrew U shows that hate of Israel is truly a mental illness

I've looked at both antisemitism and what I've called misoziony (irrational hatred of Israel) for a long time, and yet I'm still astonished at stories like this (I edited the two stories together):

Syrian opposition figures making a rare public appearance in Israel called Tuesday for stepped up Israeli assistance to the Syrian opposition, including help in establishing a safe zone for rebel elements in southern Syria along the Golan Heights.



Speaking to a packed auditorium at an event sponsored by the Hebrew University’s Truman Institute, Germany-based opposition activist Issam Zeitoun made a blunt appeal for help. “All Syrians have suffered under this regime. Something must be done. The Syrian people are too weak. We need the help of the international community.”

As the conference progressed, several Arab students began yelling at the Syrian speakers and reprimanding them for entering a dialogue with Israel. "The Golan has been occupied since 1967; you're a traitor and a conspirator!" yelled one of the student protestors. Zitun answered the students by saying, "Shame on you; you live in paradise compared to Syrians."

 

Kajjo and Zeitoun’s remarks were repeatedly interrupted by Arab students angry that they were breaking a taboo and according a kind of recognition to Israel. “You are a disgrace to Syria” one student shouted at Zeitoun.

After a tense few moments, she and another student left the hall, and she said outside.

“They shouldn’t ask for this help from Israel. Our people are dying here, we are Arab.”

But the shouting continued: “You should be giving voices to the voiceless, not pandering to the occupation,” a woman shouted.

Zeitoun defended the appearance. “We should be everywhere including Israel to explain the Syrian problem to the world, to convey their voices,” he said.

These Arabs are complaining that Syrians who are desperate to save thousands of lives and are willing to ask anyone for help are "conspirators" with Israel and "traitors" to Syria.

And these are Arab students who are attending Israeli universities!

Begging Israelis to help save Syrian lives is treacherous - but attending classes at Hebrew University is perfectly fine.

This goes beyond political positions. It is beyond deranged.  The irrational, hypocritical hate of Israel and Jews goes way beyond any normal explanation.

It is a psychosis, and it should be studied as such.

Everyone who assumes that these young people are just expressing their considered opinions on a matter are wrong. These students are engaging in a public expression of insanity and hypocrisy that goes so far beyond normal that it can only be described in psychological terms, not as an understandable reaction to reality.

Everyone who has tried to explain historic antisemitism and its more modern version of anti-Zionism has missed the issue. The real answer is that some people simply are consumed with hate that is so pervasive, and so delusional, that it overrides any other human attribute including self-preservation. It cannot be explained any more than schizophrenia can be explained. It may be chemical.

It is time that psychiatrists started to look at the hate shown by anti-Zionists and antisemites from a clinical viewpoint. Because it sure isn't going to be solved with facts, logic, or anything less than full-blown intervention into the sick mental processes of the haters.

Israel has a fatal flaw at its core.  It wants to be a theocracy, yet it sells itself as a democracy,  That was all well and good when nations were tribes, with vacillating territories.  But you can't be a democracy, and maintain vestiges of tribal identity. Tribal identity is a form of exclusion while democracy is a form of inclusion.

Israel wants to say 'we are a people', but implied is the xenophobic notion...'they are not of our people'. We've learned this through exhaustive experiences with racism and nationalism.  'We/they' distinctions are contrary to any political system that purports to be inclusive of all. It's a paradox.

I don't see how Israel can fix this as it presently exists.  Either Israel must give up its jewishness, or it must give up it's claim to democracy.

1) Fabrication, it is a Democracy and if it wanted to be a Theocracy it has to get past the majority of secularist within society. That is just misdirection on your part, when Gaza is a Theocracy and many other Arab nations are either Theocratic or Totalitarian, as we see with Assad. So thank you for further emphazing my point. You have Israeli Arabs, who have far more equality and freedoms, than those in Syria and any other Arab nation, calling Israel the enemy. Even though they reside within Israel enjoying these freedoms. Thus its either an irrational hate or they want to be ruled by an iron fist with Theocracy or Totaliatarianism

2) If they are not of their people, then they would not be citizens, which Israel again has freedom of religion and many ethnic groups. So that again is a falsehood, where in many Arab countries Jews have been ethnically cleansed and in many have become Judenrein. We are seeing the ethnic cleansing of Kurds, the Yazidi's, Christians, Druze etc from Islamic nations. All of which you ignore and yet again these students are not concerned at this and see a Syrian plea for help as traitorous. They are not caring for the lives of millions, who suffer oppression, hate of Israel is more important. That tells you everything what is wrong with how either the religion of Islam is being taught to hate Jews or a hate of Israel within the Arab world. We already know this, as there is high levels of antisemitism there. Real problems are pushed under the carpet in order to normalize hating Israel. Look at yourself making false claims onto Israel to justify to yourself in being able to deligitmize them with false claims

3) So you in fact throughout used misdirection and never looked at the unnatural hate of israel, but instead fueled that hate. That speaks volumes about illiberal thinking.

You missed a fourth, Arabs, as they were known as Arabs, until the 1970's when Palestinian Arabs as a people was invented being allowed to return to Israel.

Your history is also very shaky. The Jordanians invaded Jerusalem in the 1948 and ethnically cleansed the vast majority of the Jews and then migrated many Arabs into the area. Yet nobody complains about this settlement plan to occupy the Jewish quarter of old Jerusalem. Where Jews had been living there for centuries. It always had a majority of Jews residing there. Hence when Israel defeated Jordan in the 1967 war and repopulated Jews to where they had been expelled and the fact both Jewish and Arab populations have increased since 1967. Thus Arabs there can and have applied for Israeli citizenship. Those who have not are not able to vote, as they are in disputed territory. In the West Bank they are controlled by the PA and Fatah and thus and only have Israel have security control apart from area C, which was agreed in the Oslo accord s to have Israel control. Only 4% of Palestinians reside there and vote in elections with the PA. In again disputed terrirtory. There is nothing stopping them applying for Israeli citizenship, these 4%. The rest of the West bank is in control by the PA.

Gaza is not occupied and is in control by Hamas, of which neither they nor Fath has held democratic elections since they came to power. There is no occupation of Gaza either and is in full control by Hamas, where Israel has no control within Gaza itself. They withdrew in 2005, pulling up all the settlements. Just as they did within the Sinai with a peace treaty with Eygpt years earlier. This is why the claim that settlements hinder the peace process is false. As shortly after 2005, Israel faced unprecedented attacks from gaza with terrorism. So your understanding of international law, makes you think a people can be residing as citizens in two states. They cannot. So why would people in Gaza want to vote in Israeli elections, when they do not recognise Israel? The same with the West Bank controlled areas and again ignoring the fact both areas are Judenrein, where no Israeli is even allowed to enter, let alone vote
