French court strikes down burkini ban
PARIS -- France’s top administrative court has overturned a town burkini ban amid shock and anger worldwide after some Muslim women were ordered to remove body-concealing garments on French Riviera beaches.
The ruling by the Council of State Friday specifically concerns a ban in the Riviera town of Villeneuve-Loubet, but the binding decision is expected to set a legal precedent for all the 30 or so French resort municipalities that have issued similar decrees.

Yippeeee, love it when rational thinking - law abiding humans gain the upper hand and explain the problem to a group of 'knee-jerk' hysteria driven hatemongers!
WOW, great news ...and that wonderfully - kind man that had paid a bunch of 'burkini' fines; I hope he gets all of his money back with interest!

That law was the dumbest, most racist restriction in jurisprudence. What possible justification could the fabricate?
I hope she goes on to win substantial money damages for the humiliation caused by making her strip on the beach.

I think suing cheapens her point. It's been made.
Making money is just sleazy and cheap.

If she gives the money to charity I will agree she should sue, otherwise it cheapens her point IMO.

Maybe it's different in Europe but over here, unless you hit those egotistical bastards in their collective pockets - having them change their legal opinion won't make a lasting impression unless they are SUED.
Just say'n ...she's well within her grounds for insulting/humiliation on that day on that beach. IMO

Since women fanatics are as bad as the men are, she could have a "suicide belt" under all that clothing. YES?

No more so then a 'FAKE NUN' could have one hidden in her habit - a 'FAKE FAT MAN' one hidden in his swim trunks - a 'FAKE PREGNANT' woman hidden in her stomach bump ...when do you stop with the imaginary HORROR's and just live your LIFE

Hmmmm Nicko that's a bit paranoid and also what you've said applies to many people?
A Muslim family will take a big bag with them to the beach to hold all their bits, are we supposed to assume they have a bomb in there?

I only say that because, it is not the money, but the only means for expressing the necessary outrage at having/enforcing such a law. If you think making money is sleazy and cheap, how do you feel about forcing a woman to strip naked on a public beach?
Far more disgusting, I would suspect. I agree. One searches for a way to express grief at such evildoing.

Agreed. Plus, burkinis aren't actually that baggy ... it would be hard to conceal a bomb under something that fits almost like a wetsuit.
Re: French court strikes down burkini ban
Nigellas is that baggy she could have fitted a load of cakes under hers.

Re: French court strikes down burkini ban
Is somebody honestly trying to tell me that people wear bikinis to permit security guards to observe that they have no explosives on their body?
What, are string bikinis for miniature explosives? Good god, what's next...a man could conceal one of those behind his scrotum. I shudder to imagine what police will require tomorrow.

If someone intends harm on the beach they don't need to conceal their weapons under bulky clothes.

You cannot go round arresting people or harrassing people publically for their clothing and nor can you stop someone wearing something because you think they might hide a bomb in their skirt.

Hopefully no more women will be humiliated like the woman who was on the beach in France this week.
I know France has been under attack by Muslim terrorists recently, but surely treating women in this way would heighten ill feeling not lessen it....in any case what a woman wears has nothing to do with terror attacks.
They were punishing the wrong people.

Punishing them because they had one thing in common with the attackers. Pretty common attitude among bigots.

THE ONLY realistic way to get around that potential problem, nicko -- would be to ban all clothing from popular swimming beaches, shopping malls, public places...

She was what a lot of people would call sensibly dressed for the beach Major.....don't patrols go round in some countries (obviously not here on account of it's usually pissing down like today ) telling people to slap on sun screen and cover up?
And what about beach bags? Mine is so big I could hide any manner of guns and bombs in there.

A more accurate depiction of what is happening would be, instead of a young nubile girl as that statue, substitute your old granny who has been forced to strip to her undies.

AS a gentleman of high breeding I cannot suggest to thee where you could hide one.
Try to keep to the topic and not cause friction.
For high breeding read 'inbred'
As you're so analy retententive, you could try it there as well.
And your very first post on this topic set out to cause friction.
And WOW, all of a sudden you have learnt how to speak English again - been having lessons?

But you will admit, won't you, that saying the bikini was invented to keep burkas (that could hide weapons) off the beach, is equally senseless?

Re: French court strikes down burkini ban
The surprising Australian origin story of the ‘burkini’
Along France's beaches and swimming pools, there's a war about how women dress. A number of French towns have recently banned the "burkini" – a swimsuit worn by some Muslim women that covers the entire body except for the face, hands and feet.
On the French island of Corsica, brawls and protests have been linked to the garment. French Prime Minister Manuel Valls waded into the debate Wednesday, saying that he supports the bans on the burkini and that the garment is “not compatible with the values of France and the republic.”
The controversy resonates sharply in a country where the female attire has been a flash point between the traditionally secular majority and a Muslim minority, with mostly immigrant backgrounds, for years. Throw in devastating recent attacks linked to Islamist militants and the situation is pretty volatile.
Yet for all the burkini controversy, the backstory of the garment is often overlooked. The burkini didn't originate in Europe. And, no, it didn't originate in the Middle East or a Muslim-majority nation, either.
Instead, the burkini was crafted in Australia, designed for the white sandy beaches of Sydney. And though the garment is proving divisive in Europe, its creator says she was inspired by a desire for inclusion — and a healthy entrepreneurial spirit.
"I wanted to change the Islamic symbol of a veil," burkini creator Aheda Zanetti says. "I wanted to make sure we blended in with the Australian lifestyle."
You can trace the burkini's origins to the early 2000s in Bankstown, a Sydney suburb with an ethnically diverse population where Zanetti lived. Zanetti was born in Tripoli, Lebanon, and moved to Australia when she was 2.
It was a game of netball that first inspired Zanetti to make sportswear, she says, speaking over the phone from her home on Wednesday. She had been watching her young niece play her first game of netball but was dismayed to see her have to play with her team uniform worn on top of more traditional Islamic attire. "When I looked at her, she looked like a tomato," Zanetti says.
Though Zanetti didn't wear the Islamic veil herself (she has since started), her niece's predicament angered her. She looked for a garment that was both modest and suitable for sports. She couldn't find one, so she decided to take matters into her own hands.
