Pubic hair - do we dont we?

Apparently the store is looking to "start a conversation" so I thought I would start a thread.
How do people think the pubic area should look? Bald? Trimmed? Jungle? Does gender make a difference? What do people prefer to wear? Do people feel pressured to wear it differently than they want?

What? So the store wants to 'start a conversation', is that any reason to be mad enough to join in. Who the hell cares and what business is it of anyones.

Re: Pubic hair - do we dont we?
My sentiments exactly sassy.
I wrote a sentence saying put this thread in the bin sphinx, but then deleted it hoping everybody would ignore it and let it slip off the board.
I hope after reading this that's what will happen.
Just not worthy.

Re: Pubic hair - do we dont we?
So nobody else is concerned that their children may grow up with distorted ideas of what women and to a lesser extent men look like?
Nobody is concerned that they are showing the exact taboo response that the shop is trying to challenge?
Are we still in the Julia Roberts moment where a beautiful woman can be condemned and rejected because she chooses not to use a razor?

No, I'm not showing any taboo response, I'm saying I'm not interested, my children and grandchildren would not take any notice of anything like that, because they have been brought up to think for themselves and not be swayed by stupid things like that.
PS, they are not trying to challenge it, they are trying to get publicity.

So you are totally confident that your grandchildren are growing up untouched by the total immersion in media giving the message hair is bad shaving is beautiful? You know this because you talk to them about it?
Of course they are trying to get publicity - they are getting it by challenging ingrained preconceptions. If their mannequins had the usual bald look would anyone have noticed? Why people notice when mannequins have a more natural appearance? And why are people so reluctant to talk about it? We talk about fashions in head hair - we talk about what people do with their underarm hair (normally to object to those who dont shave it off) what is wrong with talking about fashions in pubic hair?

Re: Pubic hair - do we dont we?
They are not untouched by it, they have looked at it, discussed it, and consigned it to the right place - the dustbin. Of course I talk to them about absolutely anything. Why wouldn't I, I don't have hang ups about anything, bodywise or sex wise. My grandson consulted me about what to do when he had a tight foreskin. We all have bodies, they are a tool to be used to enjoy our lives with, and they know to tell people go jump in the lake if they try to pressure them about the way they look. I've heard my grandaughter advising other girls lol

Re: Pubic hair - do we dont we?
Thats brilliant. Unfortunately I know lots and lots of young people simply dont have that support or access to knowledge. There are both girls and boys growing up thinking there is something disgusting about body hair and I think that is worrying - especially when it results in them feeling pressure to shave or that they are not normal because they have it.
Although this shop is just trying to attract attention surely anything that makes young people aware that hair is normal cannot be a bad thing?

You know if it were not for businesses and corporations trying to manipulate public opinion so they can sell products it would be perfectly normal for women to have hairy legs.

I must admit there is a campaign on in the UK at the moment that is driving me mad. I think it is vagisil - all I know is you will get an advert for a special feminine intimate area wash to cope with odour in the "intimate" area then in the following advert break there will be the same company advertising a cream to cope with itching in the "intimate" area. Now 3 guesses what a major cause of itching in the intimate area is?

Must admit, I've heard shaving underarms and legs being discussed in the past. Why not other areas?

American Apparel is the go-to place for your hipster needs! If you don't have a trendy thrift store nearby, that is.
Bomb them from orbit, bury them in concrete and salt the earth!

I see porn as a key disseminator (sp?) of the notion pubic hair is ugly. I don't supppose the shop will be challenging it.

You either keep the area tidy or keep it clean-shaven.
Not much to discuss really.

How about young people thinking there is something wrong with them because they have hair because everything they see leads them to believe hair is wrong?

Would that be because you are unable to contemplate the subject without thinking it only associates with sex?

feelthelove wrote:Does pubic hair have a purpose?
Actually yes it does - it has a infection prevention function (some rather arcane research done decades ago compared post birth infection rates in women who had been shaved and who hadnt (they expected to find those unshaven got more infections because they thought it dirty)
and found those shaved had much higher infection levels - hence why women are no longer routinely shaved for giving birth.
Also it has a function in the spreading of pheremones - the vulva area is self cleaning and does not need soaps etc, it produces natural scents that we do not detect consciously but are never the less important and the pubic hair has a function spreading these.

The purpose of hair is to keep us warm?, as well as the eyebrows diverting rain water for our eyes?
Guest- Guest
Re: Pubic hair - do we dont we?
Of course pubic hair has a purpose, underarm hair has a purpose, the body evolves to loose things that don't have a purpose. We are got at all the time, to be thin, to be beautiful, to have tits, not to have tits, to smell like this or that. The point is keeping the pressure in perspective and recognising that it is all to do with selling products, slimming products, shaving gel, stuff for getting rid of smells we are supposed to have and that gives off signals. Talk about the whole pressure from the media, don't focus on pubic hair FGS, it's just part of a bigger picture.

But people dont mind talking about the rest of the picture just this bit - people will happily debate whether antiperspirants have side effects, rashes caused by cleaning wipes, the effect of hair dye, the pros and cons of plastic surgery but mention pubic and suddenly everyone is like "dont talk about that its not nice"
Why isnt it nice?

Re: Pubic hair - do we dont we?
Did I say that? I don't care whether I talk about pubic hair, or penises, or vaginas, or arseholes. I think that they used pubic hair as shock value for advertising basically, and why anyone would want to fall into that trap I have no idea.
And with all the things that are going on in the world, I simply don't think that whether people cut or trim or shave or have a brazilian for their pubic hair has any importance at all.

No not at all.
I am not saying there are not personal reasons for going hairless because there are - and I am not a fan of fully rampant natural either. I just think it is something people should be able to talk about because it is wrong to have everything always represented as one state of being when that is not the case.
Why should young women feel they have no choice but to go bald or they are unattractive? Why are young men set to believe that women should be bald or there is something wrong with them?
There is a whole range of pubic style - personally I am not keen on either end - so why only ever have one end represented?
