The American conservative movement is imploding
Cleveland (CNN)Ted Cruz on Thursday strongly defended his refusal to endorse Donald Trump during his Republican National Convention speech, saying he's not "in the habit" of backing politicians who attack his family.
"I am not in the habit of supporting people who attack my wife and attack my father," Cruz said at a morning meeting where he faced sharp questions from the Texas delegation in Cleveland.
Cruz stood by his decision in a remarkable 25-minute back-and-forth with his own constituents, defying appeals from his own Texas delegation to put the party above his inhibitions and back Trump.
Cruz sensationally withheld an endorsement of Trump in his speech Wednesday, earning a chorus of boos from the floor while getting upstaged in a power play by the GOP nominee himself.
In a dramatic development, as Cruz wrapped up his speech, Trump suddenly appeared in the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland. He walked to join his family in a VIP area and flashed a thumbs-up -- a gesture that transmitted clear anger at the Texas senator's behavior.
Cruz, his party's runner-up, uttered Trump's name just once -- to congratulate him -- and instead pitched the ideological brand of conservatism that endears him to the GOP's base.
"I congratulate Donald Trump on winning the nomination last night," Cruz said. "And like each of you, I want to see the principles that our party believes prevail in November."
But as it was clear Cruz was going to end his speech without endorsing Trump, delegates began to boo and some chanted "We want Trump!"
"Don't stay home in November," Cruz said toward the end of his otherwise very well-received speech. "Stand and speak and vote your conscience."
As delegates began to protest, Sen. Cruz's wife, Heidi Cruz, was heckled by Trump supporters shouting "Goldman Sachs!" and escorted out by security. Heidi Cruz, who is an employee of Goldman Sachs, declined to answer questions from reporters, saying, "I don't talk to the media, thanks."
The stunning political theater between the top two contenders in the Republican primary race blew open divisions in the party that the convention is designed to heal, and suggested Cruz believes Trump will lose in November.
...
Cruz's rebuke ignited a hot scene around the senator as soon as he left the stage. People averted their eyes from Cruz and his wife as they walked with their security detail on the skybox level of boisterous Republicans.
On the donor suite level, people approached Cruz and insulted him, a source told CNN's Dana Bash. One state party chair reacted so angrily that they had to be restrained.
Cruz, who has long sought the support of GOP megadonor Sheldon Adelson, was turned away when he tried to enter Adelson's suite.
Andy Abboud, a senior aide to the Las Vegas casino magnate, said Cruz was initially invited to come up to visit the Adelsons, but when he failed to endorse Trump the invitation was rescinded.

The chief of conservative network Fox News, Roger Ailes, is likely on his way out amid sexual harassment allegations.
Sources told CNN Money that Ailes will be leaving the network in a matter of days — after 20 years at the network turning it into a cable channel juggernaut. He’s accused of harassing employees, including the network’s broadcast star, Megyn Kelly, and Fox & Friend’s Gretchen Carlson.
“With internal allegations mounting, it was deemed time for him to go,” an unnamed source told Deadline Hollywood.
The Wrap reports that once Ailes is gone, names that have become nearly synonymous with Fox News may soon follow.
Fox heavy hitters including Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity and Greta Van Susteren have contract clauses that allow them to flee the network if Ailes were to leave.
In February, The Wrap reported O’Reilly’s program, The O’Reilly Factor, is a top ratings scorer for Fox.
Ailes is reported to be angry over the way the network’s parent company, 21st Century Fox, which is headed by Rupert Murdoch, is treating him.
The three prime time hosts have all spoken out in defense of Ailes, who denies the allegations. Carlson has filed a lawsuit.

I DON'T SEE how Trump can possibly get in...
ALL projections show that the Democrats should easily get in..
The Repub's would have to do something nasty to actually prevent people voting -- as when GWB was re-elected after hundreds of thousands of voters were disenfranchised..
AS FOR the Repub' behaviour at their convention -- just how much more hypocritical and fanciful can they get, when Trump has support of less than 40% of his own party ?
AND, if Trump should get in, imagine the stock market crashes to follow -- even if the Repub's have no intention of following up on his loony-toon promises, market traders would probably be taking advantage by selling off stocks, ready to buy back in a few days later at solid discounts.

And don't forget the looming disintegration of the GOP's number-one propaganda network! Latest reports are that Murdoch is acting CEO of Fox News as Ailes has resigned in shame. His number-one female personality, Megyn Kelly, has joined the litany of sexual harassment claimants. Fox is poised to lose three of its most popular TV personalities, which would presumably decimate their prime-time show block and destroy their ratings.

IMPLODING within the 'FAUX Media' program shows isn't a bad thing; IMO ...some of these 'screeching heads' have needed to be shut down for all of their lies and shit stirring rhetoric for many years now!
Montel Williams and Bill O'Reilly Feud over RNC Interview Walk-Off
By Brittany King 07/21/2016 AT 01:25 PM EDT
Fox News host Bill O'Reilly and Montel Williams are in an ugly public feud.
On Wednesday, the talk show host was set to appear on The O'Reilly Factor from the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio, but walked out right before the segment began.
Upon hearing the news, O'Reilly, 66, called Williams a "coward" on-air and claimed that his guest "walked out in a huff ... and the producer tells me he was mad about some gay thing. He will never be never be on this program again," the Fox News host continued. "He's not a man of his word, he's unprofessional. That is about as low as it gets."
It didn't take long for Williams, 60, to offer up his own explanation as well as sharing a few thoughts of his own about O'Reilly. He took to Twitter to write a series of tweets and a video on Periscope bashing the Fox News host and calling him the coward, "Bill calling me a coward is laughable. The guy who didn't serve but lied about his war reporting?"He explained in the two-minute video that he initially agreed to be on O'Reilly's show, but changed his mind when producers switched topics on him at the last minute. Williams claims he was told by O'Reilly's team that his interview would focus on a speech he gave earlier in the day about LGBT rights as well as a recent poll suggesting President Barack Obama is a racist, but it was switched up right before he was set to go on.Montel WilliamsVerified account @Montel_Williams Jul 20

Bill calling me a coward is laughable. The guy who didn't serve but lied about his war reporting?
"This is the first time I have not done an interview that I was scheduled to do, probably in the last five years," Williams said in the video. "That does not bring O'Reilly's show to a screeching halt. It should not have even affected Bill."
"The word coward is usually used on people who have done most of the things that you've done, like embellishing lies about your credentials as a journalist, like the fact that your own daughter in a testimony in a court case ... said that you dragged your ex-wife down a flight of stairs," he continued. "You wanna talk about coward, homeboy? ... That's what a coward truly is, somebody who's going to call somebody a name on air and not even to their face. I'm calling you one now, so the whole world can see it. We know who the coward is."
"Leave me alone," Williams added. "You don't want me on your show anymore? ... I don't care."

* Conservatives don't like change
* Murdoch has been rather removed from the running of FNN in recent years, and it's said he hates the likes of Hannity (especially)
* Conservatives don't like change
* It's going to be a business decision, and those tend to favor the potential for popularity over ideological purity
The America that Fox News appeals to is dying away. The Daily Show generation is taking its kids to soccer practice now; the O'Reilly Factor generation is the one celebrating the births of its great-grandkids.
Re: The American conservative movement is imploding
A lot of you on here don't like change - you're terrified of it in fact - does that make you conservative?

Re: The American conservative movement is imploding
There is a difference. I'm afraid of unconsidered, reckless change, much as I would fear being a passenger in a car steered by a person who thinks it's fun to randomly steer hard left on a whim.
The American right, on the other hand, is afraid of any change that they think won't make America more like they think it was in the 1950s, based on the sitcoms they've seen.
