NEW Malware infesting Newsfix...
There's some kind of malware that's infested the Newsfix feed to me here...
Doesn't seem to be a virus or worm on my device (s), as I've checked across several sites, and it's only attached itself to Newsfix.
A pop up ad appears, advertising gambling and gaming sites, and then locks up thes screen.
I suspect it attached itself to the Google or Bing advertising that appears on the Newsfix site..
I wonder if veya's seen this problem ?
Only way I've been able to stop it is closing the tab

Free forums have a lot of advertising - not like ones that people pay for.

Re: NEW Malware infesting Newsfix...
dont get me wrong, when apple macs first arrived, despite being wildly expensive they did do video rather well. however the pc market has caught up on that front, is cheaper and has a wider market of hardware and software to chose from. The Devil, You Know wrote:they are an overpriced fashion accessory.eddie wrote:

Iphones are just a rip off and waste of money. which is proved time and time again by all the idiots who ditch their must have iphone maxipad mark6 a couple of months for their iphone maxipad mark 7 with extra sparkle. The ipad is ok but android alternatives are far cheaper and do the job just as well,.
apple try to keep you tied into their own hardware and software by making it exclusively apple, even going so far as to ensure that iphones cannot be charged round your mates house unless you have got you special lead with you, and next up an entirely new headphone socket ensuring that everyone has to buy new headphones that will only work with apple devices.
sticking i in front of everything doesn't make it worth 50% more
all though apparently it does.
the apple store should be renamed
I saw you coming.

But I was on a tablet (Samsung android), when it's happened several times over the last two days;
And I haven't added an adblocker to this device yet.

there is an ad block browser rather than addon you can get for android that works reasonably well.WhoseYourWolfie wrote:The Devil, You Know wrote:

Well, and WYwolfie was on a tablet not on his PC, so like my tablet --- I often get swamped with ad pop ups if I don't refresh my AD BLOCKER every dang time I turn my tablet on!

Yes it is - it's very useful.
But only if you are not running Firefox. If you turn on ad blocker with Firefox, it will block out most of the overlays of the site, including the edit functions and the smilies. You will get no signal of new posts on which thread, you lose PMs, etc., etc.

No it doesn't. I use Firefox and adblock, and it works just fine.

Been there, done that. Turn on ad-blocker in Firefox and you will immediately lose the top layer of Forumotion. You can still post, but without any of the aids. I had to leave Firefox if I wanted to remain here. Chrome works, however. That's what I use now.

This forum is running so slow for me....I have downloaded ADGUARD, which is recommended for the Edge browser......it's got rid of the ad to supply me with 'cougars'... but it's still very slow.
Nowhere else is.

Yes, the forum is running slow today. Every time you click 'send' it goes to a black screen and takes from 15-35 seconds before any switch occurs..
The browser issue is a separate matter. With Firefox, if you don't switch on 'ad-blocker' the place goes crazy with pop-up ads galore...and constant. It's about the timing of a game of tennis...one every return shot. If you turn on ad-blocker, it does block the ads...but it also blocks half the forum. There was no answer that I could find, so I had to switch back to Chrome.

Yep....I'm getting the black screen too.
You are right ..it's not the browser, I have tried IE and Chromium...all three are the same...very slow and a long black wait.
Giving up for a while.

Re: NEW Malware infesting Newsfix...
It's a forumotion problem.
There is no malware virus on here.
Oftentimes, when forumotion is doing some updates or technical fix ups, you get problems for a few days.
Or perhaps Ben needs to get his greasy overalls on and open the bonnet to have a tinker?
