A Texas mother fatally shot her two daughters in the street outside of their Katy home before she was shot dead by a responding police officer, authorities say.
Christy Sheats, 42, killed Madison -17 & Taylor - 22.

She was shot once by a Fulshear Police officer after she refused to drop her gun, the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office said.
Jason Sheats, the girls’ father and Christy Sheats’ husband, was at the home at the time of the shooting, but was not injured. Police said he was hospitalized because of his emotional state after the incident.

Katy is located near Houston. The shooting happened about 5 p.m. Friday in the 6000 block of Remson Hollow. Sheats and her daughters were identified by police on Saturday.
Here’s what you need to know:

1. Sheats’ Husband Told Her ‘Don’t Do This, They’re Our Kids’
Christy Sheats chased her two daughters outside before shooting them in the street in their residential neighborhood, police and witnesses say.

Her husband, Jason Sheats, watched as she shot their daughters, Taylor and Madison, neighbor Fazz Zainuddin told KPRC-TV.
The neighbor told the news station he heard him say, “‘Don’t do this. They’re our kids.'”
A witness told KTRK-TV Taylor and Madison tried to flee from the house, running out with their father. One of the daughters, Taylor, was already wounded, and collapsed on the street, the witness said. The witness, a neighbor, said he saw Christy Sheats come outside with a gun and then go back inside and reload. She came back outside and shot Madison in the back, the neighbor told the news station.
A police officer responding from nearby Fulshear, who was assisting the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office, shot Christy Sheats while she held the gun used in the shooting, police said.
“The cops were behind the trees and behind the cars, and they told the mom to put the gun down and obviously she did not,” Zainuddin told KPRC. “She walked towards the body, I think Madison, already on the ground and I guess the cop was afraid that she was going to shoot her again.”
Christy Sheats and one of her daughters were pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Her other daughter was taken by a medical helicopter to a local hospital, where she later died.

2. Police Have Been Called to Sheats’ Home in the Past
Police said the shooting incident began with a family argument, but they have not provided any other details about the fight and what led up to the shooting.
“It was a family argument that turned into a shooting,” Fort Bend County Sheriff Troy Nehls told the Houston Chronicle. “But we’re still trying to put the pieces together.”
Nehls said deputies had been called to the family’s home in the past, but “as to why we were called here, I don’t know.”
He said they had responded on more than one occasion, but did not say when.
Neighbors told reporters they had never heard of any problems involving the family.
“They were always cheerful and never depressed. You never heard anything bad about them,” Austin Enke told the Houston Chronicle.
“This is sad knowing a good family and this is what happened,” neighbor Fazz Zainuddin told KPRC-TV.
Another neighbor told the news station, “The mother was nice. You wouldn’t expect it if they told you this is what was going to happen. I don’t think anybody, at least a sane person, would do that.”

3. She Posted on Facebook About Needing to Have Guns to Protect Her Family
Christy Byrd Sheats, who described herself as a Baptist and conservative on her Facebook page, made several posts about her love of guns and her need to own them to protect her family.
In one post, which you can see below, she posted a meme in January and added “That’s right! #merica.”


In another post, in March, she shared a gun advertisement video, and wrote, “It would be horribly tragic if my ability to protect myself or my family were to be taken away, but that’s exactly what Democrats are determined to do by banning semi-automatic handguns.”
Police have not said if the gun she used in the shooting was legally owned. It is also not known if she owned any other guns.

4. ‘I Love & Treasure You Both More Than You Could Ever Possibly Know,’ She Wrote About Her Daughters on Facebook
Christy Sheats wrote a loving Facebook post in September, which you can see below, on Daughter’s Day, telling Taylor and Madison, “I love and treasure you both more than you could ever possibly know.”



Christy Sheats’ daughter, Taylor, wrote a Facebook post on Mother’s Day in 2013, saying she is one of the biggest influences on her life:

Mom, you are so selfless, as you always put our whole family before yourself and never ask for anything in return. You’re so kind and loving, as you always remind us of just how much you care and how proud you are of everything we do. You’re so intelligent and fun to be around because I feel like I can talk to you for forever now about anything. You’re one of the strongest people I know, if not the strongest, and you have had to overcome so much in your life but you still manage to love us and put your everything into being a mom. You’re so encouraging, as you always push us to do our absolute best, even when we can’t muster up the strength to do it ourselves. You’re such a blessing to have as a mother and friend and I truly appreciate you and all that you do. Happy Mother’s Day to my amazing mommy and I love you.

Madison Sheats was a high school student and worked as a babysitter, according to her Facebook page. She would have been entering her senior year.

Taylor Sheats worked as a caregiver for Care.com, and studied art at Lone Star College, she says on Facebook. In addition to her father, she is also survived by a longtime boyfriend she had been dating since 2011.

5. She Was Born in Alabama & Worked as an Office Manager
Christy Byrd Sheats was born in Decatur, Alabama, according to her Facebook page.
She wrote on Facebook two years ago, “I am truly a Southern gal. I was born in Alabama, but have been living here in Texas for 15 years. I have two amazing daughters I simply adore. … They are my everything! I thank God for every breath he allows me to take!!”
Sheats had various careers, including most recently as a receptionist, according to her Linkedin profile. She previously worked as an executive assistant for the vice president of a transportation company and as a stylist at a salon.
Her husband, Jason Sheats, works as an IT consultant at Oxy, a Houston-based oil and gas company, according to his Linkedin page. He was also originally from Alabama. Friday, the day of the shooting, was his 45th birthday.

Texas Mom Who Killed Daughters Called 'Family Meeting' Before Shootout

In a statement, the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office said that on Friday afternoon, Christy gathered her children, 22-year-old Taylor and 17-year-old Madison, and her husband, Jason, who had just turned 45, in the living room of their home west of Houston.
"During that meeting, Christy Sheats held up a gun and shot both girls," the statement says. The girls and their father fled, though Madison soon collapsed and died, the statement says. Jason raced to the end of a cul-de-sac, while Taylor ran into the street, the statement says. Christy chased after Taylor, shooting her again, then returning home and reloading, the statement says.

A responding deputy and police officer found the girls lying in the street and Sheats with a gun in her hand.
"The cops were behind the trees and behind the cars, and they told the mom to put the gun down and obviously she did not," a neighbor, Fazz Zainuddin, told KPRC.
The statement says that the sheriff's office were called to the Sheats home 14 times, beginning in January 2012. Some were for alarm issues, the statement says, adding that additional details cannot be provided due to legal constraints.

Texas Mom Who Killed Her Kids Was Separated From Husband, Former Employer Says

A for Sheats lists her current profession as business manager of Clean Canvas Laser, a tattoo removal shop in Houston. It says she started in January 2014.  But John Hollis, the owner of Clean Canvas Laser, told NBC News Sheats only worked for him from January 2015 to May 2015, and was a part-time receptionist.
He said she was separated from her husband at the time.
"She was separated and she lived in an apartment, and her husband and daughters lived in the home that they all lived in where the incident happened," he said.  Hollis said he fired Sheats due to "irregular attendance and things just not adding up. She didn't steal from me or anything, she just seemed to get her facts mixed up." He added that since then, he had repeatedly requested Sheats remove his company from her LinkedIn page as her current employer, but that she never did.

(Reuters) - The Texas mother who gunned down her two daughters at a suburban Houston home was angry about a pending marriage for one of them, and may have let her husband survive so he would have to live with the anguish of losing his family, police said on Wednesday.

The mother, Christy Sheats, 42, called a family meeting on Friday to discipline her daughter Taylor, 22, who was to be married in a few days. The mother pointed a gun at her husband and then shot each daughter one time in the house, Fort Bend County Sheriff Troy Nehls told a news conference.

The mother fired more shots inside as the husband and daughters fled. Christy Sheats was later shot by police as she stood with her five-shot, .38 caliber handgun near her daughters.

"According to Mr. Sheats, she wanted to blame him for what had taken place," Nehls said. "He did state that she accomplished what she set out to do and that is to make him suffer."

On scream-filled 911 calls from the incident, the daughters pleaded for their lives.

"Please. Forgive me. Don't shoot," one of the daughters said, and then a shriek is heard followed by crying, in the tape released on Tuesday by the sheriff's Office.

"Please! I'm sorry," said one of the daughters in the call placed from the phone of Madison Sheats, 17 who was killed along with her sister Taylor, 22.

Christy Sheats' husband, Jason Sheats, can also be heard pleading to prevent the shooting.

In a call from Taylor's phone, screams can be heard along with a voice faintly coughing before the call is cut off.

Madison died outside after fleeing. Taylor was shot again. Christy Sheats went back inside apparently to reload and then shot Taylor once more, this time in the back, a witness told the sheriff's office.

According to her Facebook page, Christy Sheats was a strong backer of gun rights.

In September, she posted a message to her daughters, calling them "amazing, sweet, kind, beautiful, intelligent girls," adding, "I love and treasure you both more than you could ever possibly know."

Christy, who had been suffering from depression, had applied for a concealed handgun license and was denied, the husband told the sheriff's office.

The sheriff's office said it received 14 calls requesting its services from the Sheats residence since January 2012.
