On track to Win Eurovision
DAMI Im believes she can win Eurovision for Australia after being voted into the grand final of the world’s biggest singing competition.
Im’s triumphant performance of Sound of Silence in the semi-final saw Australia join Latvia, Georgia, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Serbia, Poland, Israel, Lithuania and Belgium to progress into the grand final, which airs at 5am Sunday morning in Australia.
“I’m quite competitive, I want to win this for Australia,” Im told News Corp this morning.
“Obviously the other contestants want to win as well, but I’m confident and I’m going to give it my best.”
Im has been praised for nailing her performance of the ballad, which includes many of the sky-high vocal notes Eurovision is famous for.
Bookies are tipping highly Im’s chances of Eurovision glory. She is second favourite behind Russia.
“I was actually quite nervous before the performance but the people in the room were amazing, they were a really enthusiastic crowd,” she said.
“They started singing along and they were very welcoming. I felt really good by the end of it.
Unlike Guy Sebastian last year, who was automatically fast-tracked into the grand final, Im had to be voted into the grand final.
Had she lost in the semi-final she would have been eliminated from the competition — this morning favourites including Ireland, represented by former Westlife singer Nicky Byrne, went home.
Her victory has also silenced many who felt Australia had been given special treatment and didn’t belong in the event.
“I’m very grateful and so relieved that Europe has voted for me,” Im said. “It’s great that I’ve earned my place here with peoples’ support. It feels great that me and the Dami Army are going together and doing this as a team.”

Re: On track to Win Eurovision
Going to be honest - heard it all before
That's song is hardly original
But I am very hard to please and in not into shouty ballads - they all sound the same
The Euro is a joke now. The last 10 years or so has seen so much political voting it's become a sham.
England gets no points most years now whether the song is good or absolute crap (and there have been some crap uk entries!)
They need to open it up to ALL songwriters again. We have some fantastic talent over here in the music industry.

cause English tastes are so obtuse
that is not the style for Australia
but what we are gambling the Euro judges want to hear
Ohh how, you are never going to hear the end of it if we win

Always get together for a meal with my two best friends from school on Eurovision night, great fun
The more outrageous and wackier the act seems to determine the winner these days. We always pick an act each to support, just for fun of course. We're not that competitive, honest

yeah damn those Baltic countries
the voting was odd we were winning by quite a bit then, Ukraine skyrockets up the charts.
good on Dami though, she was a nobody 3 years ago then won x factor so to come second in Eurovision just 3 years later is still quite an achievement

Yes he was very good but that's it for Eurovision now; it's become commercialised and Stars have realised that they have the biggest audience ever on that night so watch them all queue up to perform next year and forevermore.
There was nothing that stood out for me tbh. Nothing big enough and I also prefer to hear a national somg from a country.
Ballads suck and are an easy option.

Yeah. I missed the first few songs, but I liked the sound of the Netherlands one in the recap.
I remember when one song really stood out for me years ago, and I voted for it, and it actually won. That was a previous win for Ukraine with Ruslana and Wild Dances.

Oh dear....at least we got SOME points though.
I liked Polands entry, could not believe he came last from the judges scores.
Funnily enough he came FIRST from the viewers votes....maybe the song came over better on TV rather than actually seeing him live.

Re: On track to Win Eurovision
I absolutely loved the one that won, her passion and the fact it was personal and about what happened to her grandmother, and I loved the worlds:
When strangers are coming...
They come to your house,
They kill you all
and say,
We’re not guilty
not guilty.
Where is your mind?
Humanity cries.
You think you are gods.
But everyone dies.
Don't swallow my soul.
Our souls
Yaşlığıma toyalmadım
Men bu yerde yaşalmadım
Yaşlığıma toyalmadım
Men bu yerde yaşalmadım
2
We could build a future
Where people are free
to live and love.
The happiest time.
Where is your heart?
Humanity rise.
You think you are gods
But everyone dies.
Don't swallow my soul.
Our souls.
Yaşlığıma toyalmadım
Men bu yerde yaşalmadım
Yaşlığıma toyalmadım
Men bu yerde yaşalmadım
Not surprised the Russians are mad about it and are threatening withdraw, although I liked theirs as well.

The words are very moving, and she did obviously sing it from the heart...so well done to her.
I loved the Russian entry too, very clever, and I have never seen anyone walk up a wall and appear to hang almost upside down whilst still singing in tune.

Hahahaha that's laughable considering all those countries stick together and have made a mockery of the voting process.

I went to see Mary Poppins in Bath, it previewed there before it went to the West End. The chimney sweep danced across the stage, up the side, across the top and down the otherside and I was near enough to see that he didn't have wires. Graham Norton said last night that the Russian trick was done with soft rubber that he dug his feet into, have no idea if the same thing was used in Mary Poppins.

Victory for Jamala, the Crimean Tatar jazz singer who won with a distinctly un-Eurovision ballad about the 1944 deportation of the Crimean Tatars, caused as much joy in Kiev as it did anger in Moscow, with Ukraine’s president, Petro Poroshenko, thanking the singer on behalf of the whole country.
