Overrated singers and bands
Who do you consider to be really overrated?
Mine has to be Oasis - loved their first single "Some might say" but always found their music too predictable and Liam Gallagher's voice really grates on my nerves!
Noel, the real talent, has a better voice IMO
Also never understood the fascination with U2 (can't stand Bono) or the Manic Street Preachers.

Adele. People love her, but I find her stuff a bit dull tbh.
I like the Manic Street Preachers - they've done some cracking stuff. U2 and Oasis are OK - I'm not wild about them, but they've done some quite good stuff.

I thought Oasis' b-sides compilation was actually the best record they ever released:

I thought for the most part, Soundgarden was really overrated. This song was a huge hit and I have no idea why, it sounds like it hasn't had its coffee yet ...
Re: Overrated singers and bands
Mariah Carey. What style is she supposed to be? I can't think of anything she did tbh, apart from that one she borrowed from Tom Tom Club.

She has, or did have, a 5 octave vocal range, so one has to appreciate that. Not a huge fan but some of her stuff was ok.

Shiny happy people isn't very indicative of what REM are about actually.
Some of their stuff is very deep and really melodic and his voice is fucking sexy....it drives me wild.
Something about a deep American singing voice just melts me.

Katie Melhua was booooring, as is Adele (great voice though) and so is Mariah Carey.
I am not a massive fan of female vocalists - I'd say Pink was one of my top favourite singers, Chaka Khan is massively underrated and the woman from the SOS band is fabulous (just the way you like it - very sexy song)

Yeah, I'm not overly keen on female singers who rely on their voices a lot. I like a musical style rather than the voice. I don't generally like ballads or slow boring songs.

Me neither...though I have posted an REM song up in the "what are you listening to?" Thread

I have to disagree with that one - they did some great stuff!
The cutter
The back of love
The killing moon
Seven seas
Bring on the dancing horses
A nice cover of People are strange

I was just about to say exactly that!!!
Their first 2 albums were ok at the time they were released... and they did have a distinctive sound... but there was a lot of better stuff around at the time and they were more 'fitting in' and capturing populist mainstream opportunity rather than being new/innovative/groundbreaking etc...

Coldplay... bunch of arse!
Wishy washy drivel!!!
Seen Metallica twice... both times quite by accident really... 1st time was at reading festival about 10-15 years ago (?)... they came on as the headline act after 'system of a down' (who i'd never heard of but were absolutely brilliant!!!)... and of course I had heard OF Metallica but i had not heard any of their music... so was well excited to think an even better band than 'system' was coming on next!!!... but... although they were loud and heavy rocky with loads of guitar etc and you couldn't fault their technical ability to play the instruments etc... what they were playing was absolute shit!!!
Was just a succession of noise followed by more noise... nothing seemed joined up into an actual overall coherent peice that could be construed as an actual 'song' or 'track' etc... it all seemed like a miss mash of completely separate small 4 bar parts that were then just played in a complete random order throughout!!!
Was terrible and extremely difficult/unpleasant to try to keep up listening to with any enjoyment as it jumped and skipped about so bizarrely...
But as they had announced they had a new bass player when they came on... I gave them the benefit of the doubt...
Until I saw them again at Glastonbury couple years ago...
SAME SHIT!!!
MORE NOISE AND JUMPY SKIPPY ARRANGEMENTS... GOT HEADACHE AND LEFT PROTO!!!
Adele... who...!?
