Martin Clunes in plea to catch Croydon cat killer
At least 35 cats thought to have been mutilated by so-called Cat Ripper of Croydon, with Peta offering £5,000 reward
Martin Clunes has written to Scotland Yard calling for officers to catch the so-called Cat Ripper of Croydon.
At least 35 cats are thought to have been mutilated around the south London borough, according to the actor, who sent the email to the Metropolitan police commissioner, Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe, on behalf of animal rights group Peta.
Clunes, who went to school in Croydon, wrote: “I read with horror that some of the cats had been decapitated and dismembered – this is the stuff of nightmares. The local community is understandably distraught and frightened. No one feels safe while this sick individual is on the loose.”
He added: “Research in psychology and criminology shows that people who commit acts of cruelty to animals don’t stop there – many of them move on to their fellow humans. That is a scary thought indeed.”
He concluded the letter by saying: “Because repeat crimes are the rule rather than the exception among animal abusers and given the malicious nature of these crimes, I implore you to take every measure necessary, including re-examining all available CCTV footage, to apprehend this dangerous criminal. The safety of the entire community depends on it.”
Peta has offered a £5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrator.

Must be awful for anyone with a cat around there, because you can't keep them in all the time.

Horrible.
And I agree with what Martin Clunes said, a person who is cruel enough to deliberately hurt and kill a defenceless animal could also have it in them to hurt and kill a human being.
They must have some sort of empathy gene missing.

I lov cats and have 3 of them, a bossy femalee and two large males.
But, be aware of their killer instincts. As one study, published in Nature Communications, found:
In some places there are calls to stop keeping them as house pets.

Cats are a big problem in the uk
People never neuter them like (most) sensible dog owners do, and they just rip open bin bags and shit in other people's gardens.
Dogs only shit in their own garden and (most) dog owners pick up their dogs poo.
Cats have no real use either (sorry people!)
Dogs are trained to do all sorts of jobs that humans can't and cats just lick their arses and fuck off to be fed by whomever will feed them.

Well yes because even though I mean all I've said (I'm not a fan of cats) I'd never ever hurt one and think anyone who does is scum!!
My little girl loves cats so I'll probably end up getting one anyway

Re: Martin Clunes in plea to catch Croydon cat killer
killing pet cats is wrong, but they are annoying and you CAN keep them in all the time or build them a cat run
we have ferals here that are a bit of a different story, and any cat let loose is a enviromental threat.
BUT even if they were feral cats this doesn't sound like 'humane kills', so they should try to catch this sicko quick smart

That's a lot of mice.
My horrible next door neighbour has 3 cats that use our garden as their own personal toilet.
In return they(the cats) thank me by leaving assorted corpses on my back patio....bless.

My old cat goes over the Farm to do his toilet.
My young cat has a litter tray witch she uses immediately as soon as I have put clean litter in,
the little sod.

Haha....we went in our sons house every night to look after his cat when he was away. It used the litter tray till the last day, then just as son was due home the cat used the bath tub.....never done it before or since.
I think he must have been fretting.

the old one will run as soon as a stranger approaches.

I suppose it's better than a large turd deposited on the footpath by a dog and not picked up.

Re: Martin Clunes in plea to catch Croydon cat killer
This is awful. There was a problem locally to me last year too
Very worrying, particularly as cruelty to animals can lead to other violent crime.

Re: Martin Clunes in plea to catch Croydon cat killer
Definitely a sick and evil scumbag doing this!
Especially as they would have to spend some time to entice a cat towards them by acting friendly and gaining some trust from the cat first... then picking it up and walking off with them...?
Surely some people must have seen this going on if it is how it's happening...!?
Also this would suggest that the sicko has quite a knowledge of how cats behave and how to handle them... and this could only have come from already have being around cats before?
Or maybe they are setting up traps around the area...?
Or giving the cats some sort of drugged food...?
I have had cats myself and I can tell you how difficult and dangerous it is to try to get hold of a cat that really doesn't want to be touched/picked up etc, and how hard it is to keep hold of a cat that is struggling to get away!
Whoever is responsible would be most likely to have some serious bite and scratch marks!
I am working in Croydon at the moment and it was in the local paper the other week about this... they were saying that the cats claws were being tested for traces of human dna from the likely scratching of culprit.
Hope they catch the sick fuk soon!!!
