TIL: that Texas' largest high school has nearly 6,400 students. That's twice as large as the university I went to, twice as large as a town my family lived in for several years when I was a kid, and over five times the size of the high school I attended.

Ummmm sorry but yes I did know about this subject. Haven't seen the film (reviews were mixed) and you know me, I get pissed when they muck about with historical fact.

Anyhoos - the subject. Yes it has been mentioned before in a lot of articles and books - mostly about how Mengele managed to get out of the country. Gitta Sereny wrote a great book on Fritz Stangl (Treblinka and Sobibor) and how he was protected till he got busted (she also mentions it in the book she wrote about Speer). Of course the classic Odessa File by Frederick Forsyth. Also Simon W for years spoke about this very thing but finding the proof was always hard as they practiced something similar to the Mafioso Omerta. Himmler's daughter Gundrun, was rumored to be heavily involved in this type of organization.

The film is good, I have read accounts before, but the way the film is made really captures the setting and mood of Germany at the time

Cool. Always happy to help. Love Readers Advisory part of my job BUT I hate it when someone says it had a blue cover but that's all I know. I have solved a few of those but at great cost to my brain aching for the rest of the day/night.

Another library has it so I will borrow it sometime and give it a go.
