If anyone has lost any will to believe it clearly is you Ben, by the above, where only the other day you were claiming to victor to have faith in humanity of which I do. Never seen such poor pessimism in all my life and off where you continue to allow some on the left to continue to abuse daily. If when asked to deal with things in the first place and you handled them with balance, you would not have some of these issues today. The failing and buck stops with yourself how you handle these situations at the end of the day and if you allow, of which you do people to continually get away breaking the rules, then it stands to reason that will continue. Try leading by example, as I have certainly kept to my promise not to abuse, why not others do the same or just stamp down on when people do, but I have to say the above is very petty and very immature to say the very least. I know some are continually trying to goad me to be abusive but to be honest it just gives me further strengh not to be abusive. But get rid of the above as it shows you in the worst possible light.

korban dallas wrote:There are several areas in which British and American spelling are different. The differences often come about because British English has tended to keep the spelling of words it has absorbed from other languages (e.g. French), while American English has adapted the spelling to reflect the way that the words actually sound when they're spoken.
If you're writing for British readers, you should only use British spellings. In one or two cases, the preferred American spellings are acceptable in British English as well, especially the -ize/-ization endings. While you can use both the -ise/-isation or the -ize/ization endings in British English, it's important to stick to one style or the other throughout the same piece of writing.

this is why you should all speak Aussie
we dont give a fuck spell it however just try and make the letters make the approximate sound
and punctuation is for the weak
Plus on class/classy, the fact that the English define class as 'Englishness' is probably why Aussies are so proud to posses 'no class'

why on earth would anyone with a brain what to be like a dreary miserable old Englishman.
a less enjoyable life i can hardly imagine, having to spend your days thinking of thing to complain about so you can have 'classy' British conversations.
Making mental lists of whinges you can have about the person you are politely conversing, good old deceitful British class, can't say it to their face, but with typical English Style and grace complain most sternly behind their backs.

Ah, you pesky Californian -- I cast doubt on your ability to "see" the world as right-wingers do.
By these wonderful people's definition, "British" can't help but be "classy," 'cause it's British. Look back to the Bush era, re: America can't help but be right, 'cause it's America.

Well, if it's between right- and left-wingers, that's easy. LWers accept and applaud the notion of community. RWers champion individualism. The devil is in the consequences.
While the LWer looks over all the problems within the community, and seeks out answers, the Rwer seeks to preserve and grow his individualism and individual possessions, and seeks selfishness. The LW sees mankind as creative, expressive and wonderful; the RWer sees mankind as evil, selfish (self-reflection?) and in need of constraints. The LWer embraces the responsibilities of society; the RW seeks to avoid them.
Take taxes...the LW sees them as a means to creatively better the human condition. The RW sees them as levies on personal wealth, by evil-minded freeloaders, and seeks to minimize them. The same with government: The LWer sees it as a tool for betterment of mankind; the RWer sees it as a loss of freedom to do whatever the individual wants, regardless of who it hurts.
The RWer sees government in terms of its power, and funds a huge military when it won't even fund hospitals. Both war and sickness are challenges to humankind, but only the military holds the potential to accumulate more land and more resources. RWers care nothing about human well-being, save of course, their own, and they they see the military as a means to expand. What do RWers love most of all? War, of course. They'll waste all of their resources on a war machine, and view it almost as an investment.
The LWer cares very much about mankind and fellow man, and is extremely concerned about anyone who suffers. The LW is not always defensive...he is in favor of arts and industry, and views such things as 'great works' of achievement if only mankind is freed of constraints. The great libraries and universities, not to mention museums and inventions, discoveries and thoughts, are the product of LWers.
LWers love thinking, and the products that it produces. RWers are worriers, thinking only of how to accumulate and stash away. LWers love and are fascinated by the new, the changes, and the improvements that changes make on their lives and on the lives of their fellows. RW see the new, and the changes, as a potential disruption on their stashes and their way of life.
In America, we have two documents, representing both the LW and the RW. The first is the Declaration of Independence, reflecting optimism and a brighter future. The Declaration, based upon Rousseauian principles, heralds the greatness of man, and his wonderful potential...it is the LW document: "We hold these truths to be seif-evident...That all men are created equal...And they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights...Among these, Life, liberty and the Pursuit of happiness."
The Constitution of the United States is the RW document...as it tries to lock in mankind with laws and restraints. Remember, the RWer lives in fear of evil mankind, which would take all he has selfishly accumulated away from him. The Constitution sees man as potentially evil and attempts to build walls, barriers and bound man on all sides. It is the system of laws and restraints. The only optimism that you see in the Constitution is that which forms the basis of the name given to LWers...it's emphasis on liberty. The Amendments, particularly the first 15, are statements of the liberties, and they were conceived and written by the liberal, Thomas Jefferson.
So the US has two foundings: a LW and a RW. It has two documents associated with those foundings. And it attempts to live within the parameters of the two, with constant internal struggles. It appears that the LW always wins out, as does progress. We go from religion to secular society; from status to contract; from restraint to liberal freedom. It's not always easy...we still want to lock up wrongdoers, we still hate the stranger, we don't like people with different color skin, or eyes, or beliefs...but we march forward and those things change.

But some still try to argue that voting for anything different to more of the same is voting for some 'far right Nazi' type politics when it is nothing of the sort!

In all honesty this is why I am rarely here now. It's the same people abusing each other for their opinions rather than trying to counter arguments.
No respect for each other as human beings, insults rather than discussion. Point scoring, getting personal, it's deadly dull and cringing to watch.
No fun, no feelthelove
Happy 2016, life is for living, learning, loving. Hope to see more of that here. Less of the RW/LW abuse x

I know I'd be a lot happier if this place could be a positive thing in its members lives. Let's be informative, share helpful information, debate interesting issues and avoid personal fighting, flame wars and, in my dearest hope, the excessive negativity that a few members here apparently think you have to project in order not to seem naive or uncool.
Being cynical does not make you mature!
People pride themselves on being cynical because they think it makes them street-smart and sharp-eyed, able to see the truth behind everyone's bullshit. If it's a matter of being skeptical, and always thinking and asking questions, that's not a bad thing.
But a real wise person of the world keeps looking for all the angles ... They look for all sides of the story instead of assuming there are only two. Being proud that you are able to jump to a negative answer quickly -- that's just something most people figure out by turning 14.

what a load of old coblers
comming here has merely INCREASED my cynicism, or rather it has confirmed that the degree of cynicism I have is about right
thing is ben..I ask a lot of questions......
and get evasions as answers
principally I suppose becasue a lot of questions I ask are perhaps unanswerable without the person I'm questioning compromising their cherished belief.
free debate is by any measure going to be noisy fractious and at times ill manered
those involved will invariably be self opinionated, often proud, and inevitably strong willed
the fact that you can hold this place in some semblence of order, given the above should be seen by all as a tribute to not only your good management but your good sense in choice of moderators (even if that includes that antipodean hobgoblin)
dont let us argumentative brits get under your skin....Its what we are...we argue blacks white and that france is english soil.....and out of it all comes the biggest aid package per capita going...
the great thing is...you can be sure EVERY aspect of that has been very very minutely examined and vehemently argued over.
you should also consider that being called a moron whilst argueing with a brit is NOT a deadly insult...its merely a sign of exasperation ....
