Re: The magic of mushrooms
This might be mentioned in the programme: A mushroom named Amanita Muscara, if eaten, can cause hallucinations and similar effects as drugs. If ever you go picking mushrooms in the wild, take a book with you with illustrations and explanatory notes, so you stay safe.

I wouldn't advise anyone to go picking wild mushrooms. There have been several stories about people picking the wrong kind and dying - usually the Death Cap or the Destroying Angel.
There are others can cause illness. For example, the Ink Cap makes you ill if you drink alcohol, and the Yellow Stainer, which looks very much like another harmless mushroom.

Mushrooms actually fascinate me, they're the visible (above ground) parts of some of the biggest living things on earth, to the tune of four square miles ...

Re: The magic of mushrooms
Morning Ben. Would you explain the 4 sq. miles. I'm intrigued. I haven't looked at the link. Sorry, will do when I get time.

The mushroom part of the whole organism is only PART of the whole living thing... and only produced when the organism wants to spread to pastures new... the part of the organism that is below ground can be as large as 4 square miles!!!
The mushroom programme explains this too if you can find it somewhere to watch... was very interesting.
