Far too much yard work & chicken chores as well, I've had my hot shower and there's nothing but toothpicks keeping my eyelids propped open!

3:45am here in the Heartland...
well, that sleep cycle was enjoyable while it lasted...but 3 little poopers staring a hole through my head - is certainly a creepy way to ~WAKE UP~ and let us outside noooooow! So I'm up...coffee being re-heated in the miniature nuke plant and I'll be kick started into my day!
WOW, we sooooo need some rain!

I wasn't to far behind you over here: wake up time is usually around 4 am...grab my mug of coffee and snuggle up on the sectional sofa...watch early am news programs and check the weather forecast.
and the radar is showing the entire western section getting drenched in rain so it's slowly moving me direction --- I can feel it in my BONES.
Watching the birds & squirrels coming in to the south facing porch to feed: red headed finches/house finches/northern golden finches/loads of sparrow/song sparrows/black crested-titmouse/several downy woodpeackers/red-bellied woodpecker/3 different types of wrens/mr & mrs cardinals/mourning doves/and those occasional starling/cow birds. I hear an oriole so my flavored water feeder is out ready for them and 5 of my hummer feeders have been cleaned and filled too. I am ready~~~
PS...I forgot that loud & rowdy Mr & Mrs. BlueJay...they fly in and everything else flies away --- well except that big red-belly woodpecker...he'll stand his ground. And it interesting to see the method that the different species have to selecting the type of seed to eat; the little back capped tit-mouse will select a black oiled sunflower seed - place it between it's little feet and begin pounding the hell out of it to get to the seed...while that huge BlueJay just swallows it whole. The black capped sparrow and the black throated sparrow get to the center of the seed pans and start flicking feed every where...but the other types of sparrow just get busy eating!

All I get are Wood Pigeons,Magpies, Blue Tits and the occasional Robin. But, I put up a nest box 5 days ago and looking out of the window this morning I saw a wisp of grass poking out of the entrance, I might have lodgers.

Re: The good night and good morning thread
Awwww, a fellow bird watcher; I get lots of those 'bug/worm' eaters and this year those unfortunate Robins returned early and managed to live through 2 separate weekend snow storms.
When the fires in the wooded areas of Arkansas/Louisiana were so bad and the occasion hurricanes we see more of those brightly color buntings move up from down south and they're a rare treat to see. One older guy I used to take care of had the largest cluster of our State Bird the Meadow Lark that I'd ever seen; there would be 20+ flying around his home --- sadly they're rather slow and stupid to dart out in front of fast moving vehicles and get killed quite often. But I do love the excitement of observing a rare uncommon bird to my area --- have my binoculars & my Audubon Society Filed Guide to North American Birds right on the left side of my desk next to the south facing window that looks out onto the porch with all of my feeders in plain sight.

Re: The good night and good morning thread
I put mixed bird seed in an open top box screwed to the fence, filled up last night.
This morning two Woodies came down, stood IN the box and threw most of it out on to the ground, very untidy eaters.

BIRDS !!!
AROUND HERE, there would be more than two dozen varieties that are permanent residents, another couple of dozen that visit locally from the bush, wetlands and come down from the hills when there's food around, and maybe another couple of dozen that seasonally migrate through and by..
Some examples include -
LOCALS
Indigenous: Black-backed magpies, White-backed magpies, Pee wees, Willy wagtail, Eastern Raven, Noisy miners, Crested pigeon, Black ducks, Teal ducks, Mallards, Moor hens
Introduced: Mourning dove, Indian mynah, Sparrows, domestic ducks and geese released onto local creeks
LOCAL VISITORS
Indigenous: Kookaburras, Azure kingfisher, Red Heron, Blue heron, Sulphur-crested cockatoo, Black cockatoo, Galahs, Wedge-tailed eagle, "Chicken hawk" (a type of Peregrine falcon), Black swan, Pelican, Silver gull, Kestrel, finches, warblers, Bell miner, Eastern rosella, Crimson rosella, Rainbow lorikeet, Grass parrots, Swamp hens, Cormorants, Egrets, Sacred ibis
Introduced: Diamond back starling, racing pigeons (ferals)
MIGRATORY SPECIES
Indigenous: White cockatoo, Honeyeaters, Bee eaters, pardalotes, Koel, Channel billed cuckoo, Black-faced cuckoo shrike, Magpie geese, a couple of honeyeaters..
THESE are the ones that come to mind. If I checked those that have been seen &over the years, my list easily tops 70. Add in those that others claim to have seen, it will top 100..
(Still well behind Queensland and parts of Brazil..).

Re: The good night and good morning thread
It's been a full day of over cast skies and finally, some
much needed rain; started around noon and it's been a slow
drizzle with occasional gentle showers - no winds blowing -
no tornado warning - no thunder. So my 3 little poopers
have enjoyed the lazy day. Windows open and lovely watching
movies on my tablet. Catch you all in the early am.

Blessed slow steady rain all night long --- made getting the 3 little poopers out the back door to go 'P', so peddle papers were placed around the & under the trash can on the laundry room floor. That rain might just make them MELT. LOL

Since you've known her years longer than 'I' have...wouldn't a PM from your keyboard work more efficiently then using 'MY' messenger service I've no right to post what's effecting her health but since you've known her far longer...I'm certain that a note would brighten her day when she's up to reading them.

Oh...for sure; I am...but your longevity with her might have much more impact then just a BTW, message from 'ME'.
That's what I was getting at; that and you've more info about her medical history than I do --- I don't pry and she's feeling really BAD.
