Judge ignores barrister's plea for morbidly obese woman to be spared jail as she would 'not cope with life behind bars' after causing father of four's death.

A 30-stone motorist who killed a jogger - but claimed she was too fat for prison - has been jailed for two-and-a-half years. Linda Ann Jenns, 49, knocked down Paul Stinton after jumping a red light in her Ford Kuga in Kent. A jury found her guilty of causing the death of the 45-year-old father of four by dangerous driving.
Her barrister, Ian Bridge, urged a judge not to jail "grossly overweight, morbidly obese" Jenns because she would not be able to cope with life behind bars. But Judge Heather Norton ignored the mitigation and passed a jail sentence at Canterbury Crown Court.

With prison portions she should be able to shift some weight I reckon.

i'm surprised she was even fit to drive at that size...

why should fat people not be jailed they commit crime then they should go to prison like everyone else .

Like eddie said the prison portions should help her shed some of the weight .

It was her barrister who tried to get the judge to be lenient. That's normal - it's what barristers are paid to do.

that is true their duty is to defend their client..

Jeez, this reminds me of a woman from my neck of the woods who had sex with her student, her lawyers tried to argue she was too pretty for prison ...

Should have been given extra time for contempt of court for trying such a load of Bollocks.

It worked too.  The Florida judge gave her house arrest only...out and about, shopping and such in half-a-day.  The interesting thing is that she took the 13-year old student on weekend trips and crossed state lines--a violation of the Mann Act.  But the Sate of Georgia actually declined to even prosecute, saying she was too pretty to bring to a jury.

The case is juxtaposed to a male teacher in North Carolina who got 22-years for having sex with a student at around the same time.
