Do we really know what the people we vote for really stand for??
First topic message reminder :
We may know the party line but what if the candidate turns out to be a hateful bigot, does our vote give them the chance to advance their bigotry.

Shady, you are just confused. Sometimes you come on as a decent human being, sometimes you come on as a troll that frankly needs a bloody good slapped arse.
LOL! A slapped arse indeed.
How can I be a troll when I use this site.....when I'm home on a fairly regular basis?

It's not the site you use, it's the way you use it, and your intentions at the time, and you are so transparent when you are in toll mode.

Sounds like you're taking the threads that criticize Christianity pretty personally -- I for one don't make them to have a go at any Christian member of the site.
Here's one thread that might be thought of as Christian-bashing that I created before HF or VOD ever signed up:

You're not dreaming are you .
You see, you don't understand VOD. I don't judge you on what you say to me. I judge you on what you say to others and about other things, and I judge you for being with HF and standing up for him and agreeing with him, because his heart is even blacker than yours, and he so enjoys trying to hurt as many people as possible.
In that case then you're horrible and have a heart of stone , you call hell out of anyone who you don't like . You just condemned yourself there sassy . I wish we were all perfect but we are'nt are we , you have your fair share of nastiness on here so don't think you're an angel lol

Are you suggesting that VOD should divorce HF because you don't approve of him?

It is very commendable that someone will do what sassy did but she just isn't the right person to represent people with her attitude .
Yes it is commendable (will HF call you an arselicker too? )
I don't think sassy "hates" Christians - she'll correct me if I'm wrong I'm sure - but perhaps she sees a hypercritical qualify to SOME Christians.
She campaigns for Muslims but I'm sure she'd see there's a hypercritical qualify to them too.
You point out flaws within Islamic teachings yet I'd never say you "hated" Muslims Vod?
Campaigns for Muslims? Don't you mean she campaigns for Palestine?

other issues could be anti or pro abortion, does our vote validate what they stand for, should we not vote at all...
I generally ask them where they stand on the issue of hunting with dogs. It usually throws them a bit.

I am beginning to think if i should vote or not and this has nothing to do with sassy, in essence i am giving my permission to who ever i vote for to do what is best in their opinion, they could think abortion is a good idea, they might think legalising cannabis is a good idea.

Well are you voting for the person or for their views? If you have strong feelings about a certain issue, it's a good idea to ask them where they stand on that issue.

just a couple of problems with that, politicians lie, sometimes they don't know as the lie has been passed on to them, the other problem is they might tell you the party line but not risk personal ideals they hold..
i could inadvertently give some one the power to kill babies when they vote to extend the time a woman can be pregnant and still have an abortion..

You can't do much about them lying, but if you ask them face-to-face, you would probably get a good idea of their real views.

that is true... i might stop voting though, I don't want to encourage the people they put up to vote for... none of the above is beginning to look like the best option..

If a candidate is a member of a political party, you'd get a pretty good idea of the party line they're going to follow. If they're not though, you would need to ask them questions and see what they say - and how they say it.

not so sure you would get much out of them, they would be scared of saying something that would stop you voting for them..

That depends on how you put the question ...
Leave it open-ended without saying what your own view is.

I think that might be a bit of a giveaway HF.
Seriously though, I just ask them where they stand on certain issues, and I don't give them a clue as to what I think about the issues.

No, it's two-way here. It's the Christian threads that I don't know about. I rarely get into bible study much. It's like having a discussion on comic books. Waste of time, really.
