White people are racist, but can't handle being called racist: the theory of white fragility - Page 4 Empty White people are racist, but can't handle being called racist: the theory of white fragility

First topic message reminder :

I'm not going to post the whole article here (I find that long c&ps are tedious)but I will take the parts, that to me, are relevant:

Robin DiAngelo was right out of college when she started thinking about it. She'd landed a job leading workshops on racism. And she met a man who became very angry, and pounded on a table. He said white people are the target of discrimination, white people can’t even find jobs anymore.

DiAngelo looked around the office and she saw nothing but white people, all of them with jobs.

"It was unnerving," she says now. "It was like, 'This is not rooted in any racial reality that is happening, in this room, in this workplace, or in this man’s life.' And yet, these feelings are real. His rage is real. How do we do that?"

Meaning: How do white people see themselves as the victims of racism, when the world around them shows something totally different?

DiAngelo worked for years doing racism workshops, wondering this. Eventually, she developed a theory.

"I started thinking about how fragile our sensibilities are when it comes to race," she says

But that doesn’t stop us from forming opinions, many of them strongly held. And one of the biggest ones is about what racism means, and who is racist.

"The number one most effective adaptation of racism over time," DiAngelo says, "is the good/bad binary, this idea that a racist is a bad person and a good person is not racist. And so it’s about individuals who are either good or bad or who either do or don’t engage."

One of the side effects is that many white people come to believe that if they just don’t talk about or think about race, then they are not racist.

"Racism comes out of our pores as white people. It's the way that we are."
Then, if someone comes along and talks about racism the way DiAngelo does – that racism is a system of oppression. That anyone can be prejudiced, but in America, only white people are racist. And, actually, all white people are racist because, as DiAngelo says:

"Racism comes out of our pores as white people. It's the way that we are."

Almost any defensiveness that you get from a white person trying to talk about racism is rooted in that good/bad binary," DiAngelo says. "They hear you saying, 'You are a bad person.'"

The flip side, DiAngelo says if you think of yourself as one of the “good” white people, you think you’ve got it down. You see the latest person caught on camera using the "n-word," that’s what racism is to you. Whatever you’re doing isn’t racist.

And so you don’t think about the whiteness of your neighborhood, your school system or your office.....

A very interesting article actually, but for me, this is the crux of what I am always saying:

Almost any defensiveness that you get from a white person trying to talk about racism is rooted in that good/bad binary," DiAngelo says. "They hear you saying, 'You are a bad person.'"

The flip side, DiAngelo says if you think of yourself as one of the “good” white people, you think you’ve got it down. You see the latest person caught on camera using the "n-word," that’s what racism is to you. Whatever you’re doing isn’t racist.

No they were not charged in their trials with racially motivated crimes but I understand they could very much be also charged with this later. As I understand this is being looked into in many of the grooming cases.

No.

They were targeted because they were not only white but because they were not Muslim and as such regarded as no better than animals...

In fact the children were also portrayed as being scum bags by the media, wild and feral like, difficult and rebellious types and rough, troubled backgrounds etc...

As many of them were actually in the care system and in fact vulnerable, and supposedly under the watchful care and safety of social workers and care workers etc, but it turns out that these care workers also knew exactly what was going on and continually allowed it.

However, many of the children were from normal decent family backgrounds but still tarred with the same brush.

In fact one father found out where his daughter was being raped, went round there to rescue her and was then himself arrested and taken away, leaving the girl in the house to continue getting raped...

The complicity of THe police, council, social services and other authorities, even the schools in this is just staggering!!!

They all knew, not only doing nothing and allowing it to continue but also actively working to cover it up.

Some did raise concerns and were told to be quiet...

How do you not know any of this rags...!?

Do you not live in UK?

As most of What I say is widely known!!!

I only asked if it was classed as a racially aggravated crime. I can't be expected to know all the details about every single thing which happens in the UK.

Also there have only been a small number of them prosecuted yet still...

Only about a dozen in rotherham...

And nobody in authority has been prosecuted either... although one was forced to resign as police and crime commissioner having been previously in the council in charge of children's services during much of the crimes... and even then after having clung on like a barnacle...

Yes I do Tommy. I haven't paid much attention to how many people were involved though.

The huge numbers involved has been one of the main points of the news as it has made it all the more staggering as to how this was so obviously clearly known about by the authorities and their collective efforts to allow it to continue and all actively working to cover it up.

This wasn't just a single mistake here and there but an organised collaboration by the authorities.

And still nobody has been held to account, the cover up is still going on!
