Islamic school in Australia bans girls from running over virginity fears
An Islamic college in Australia is under investigation after claims that its principal has banned girls from taking part in running competitions because they might “lose their virginity”.
Victoria state Education Minister James Merlino said Thursday that if true, the claims made by a former teacher at Melbourne’s Al-Taqwa College “would be very concerning”.
“I have asked the schools regulator, the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority, to investigate,” he said in a statement.
The former teacher wrote to government ministers this week alleging “the principal (Omar Hallak) holds beliefs that if females run excessively, they may ‘lose their virginity'”, The Age newspaper said.
“The principal believes that there is scientific evidence to indicate that if girls injure themselves, such as break their leg while playing soccer, it could render them infertile.”
Hallak denied the allegations late Thursday in a statement and said girls were “encouraged to participate in all activities”, subject to parental consent.
“We do not believe that running excessively may cause female students to lose their virginity or that sporting injuries could render them infertile,” the statement added, according to the newspaper.

How is this school still be run by this Principle?
This is why I keep saying, there should be no religious run schools, as you have the most daftest views that come from religion, which are taught wrongly as facts.

Why is still run by the guy that said

Re: Islamic school in Australia bans girls from running over virginity fears
The Age published a letter that appeared to be written by the college’s cross-country team to Hallak challenging his decision to reportedly stop the primary school’s team from competing in events in 2013 and 2014.
“Just because we are girls doesn’t mean we can’t participate in running events,” the letter said, adding that the decision was “really offensive to all the girls that were going to participate”.
“It also doesn’t say that girls can’t run in the hadith (sayings of the Prophet Mohammed). As long as us girls are wearing appropriate clothes we can run.”
Al-Taqwa College is believed to be Victoria state’s largest Islamic school and had 1,701 students enrolled last year, according to government data.
The co-educational independent school takes in students up to 18 years old, and received more than Aus$15 million (US$11.6 million) in government funding in 2013.
It is not the first time Hallak has made headlines.
The principal told The Age last month that he had instructed students not to join Islamic State as the jihadist group was a plot by Israel and the United States to gain control of Middle Eastern oil.

School should be about honest education and not ones that have bad ideas like we see in the US where Creationism is taught wrongly as a fact.
There is no evidence for religion , so where religions clash with equality and in fact discriminate, then it shows why religions should not run schools

they should not be in general, but the catholic schools need to close too.
Dont really care why he told them not to join ISIS as long as he is telling them not to join ISIS
and even your quote says "Appeared", it is all on allegations of a ex-teacher from the school so it has to be taken with a grain of salt until it is investigated

The guy seems a bit of a bampot and is claiming he didn't say what has been reported but he also fails to explain why he cancelled to cross-country event.
Faith schools are a nonsense really but I think we're stuck with them.

Hence why I said there should be no religious schools
I thought I made that clear
The only religious schools should be for their faith leaders, priests, Imans etc

Schools run by Christian organisations here in UK teach a wide and balanced education in the main while Islamic schools teach mostly medieval Muslim bullshit.
Big difference.

A lot of people in the UK love Catholic schools on the grounds that they often have a good academic record.

Re: Islamic school in Australia bans girls from running over virginity fears
Here's the letter the kids wrote to the Head. Seems authentic but if it was received by the Head how did it end up in the hands of this Age group? Maybe it's a copy that was kept. He did cancel the cross-country event and although he now says these claims are false he has not explained why.
Whatever, I think faith schools are wrong as they just cause problems. We have them here in Scotland and some are built right next door to each other split by a wire fence which often separates friends who otherwise be busy talking to each during break times etc.

Re: Islamic school in Australia bans girls from running over virginity fears
Why are you concerned how it ended up in the hands of someone else?
That is what happens all the time where things are leaked to other people.
The problem is religious schools a re a problem where they are held with such a literal belief.
I went to a Catholic school or which there certainly was a biased taught.
I have no problem with funded religiuous schools, but their faith should have no influence or bearing on how the curriculum is taught.

Ridiculous. Being able to run fast protects many Southern U.S. girls' virginity.
Re: Islamic school in Australia bans girls from running over virginity fears
Seriously Lone Wold, your insults and false accusations are lame to say the least.
You will find centuries of history where religions have taught views that discriminate. A good example of this is how only until the 20th century did women start to obtain equal rights. At every turn it had been schools run by the religious teaching a view that women were sub servant to men. You even get people today with this view point where they take a literal religious belief whether Muslims or Christian that see women as second to men.
The fact is such things happen in schools, so to make an argument as you are doing Lone wolf. Where your only defense is to insult posters with infantile name calling. That we know and see problems in religious schools where in countries evolution is banned from being taught and studied.
That is a problem in many schools around the world all because of literal beliefs. This is not making an argument against Muslims or Christians, but how we do see problems with some religious schools, where the beliefs of that faith conflict with the equality and well being of people. If a school has accusations made, then there should be an investigation. if after investigating they find the principle discriminating against girls, action should be taken here, because he is superseding religious beliefs over the Australian laws on equality to women. Now I am sure you would also back defending women from discrimination?
So thanks for your infantile response, but the letter seems genuine enough to me ..

I'm not concerned, I'm just curious to get to the truth on this and find out if this is all genuine. The article does say 'appears to have been written by the children'. And you may have noticed that I have already said that the letter looks authentic to me and that I think the Head is a bampot and I have also given my views on faith schools as well.

no better than public schools here AND irrelevant if religious schools are not funded it should include them, let alone there is more crimes committed in them they have a history of Pedophilia. shut them all down. only fund public schools
