Nicola Sturgeon Denies Telegraph Report She Wants David Cameron To Win Election
An inquiry has been ordered into who leaked a memo to the Daily Telegraph for "transparently political motives" which claimed Nicola Sturgeon privately wanted David Cameron to remain prime minister.
The Telegraph's story claimed the SNP leader told a French ambassador she would prefer to see a Conservative victory at the General Election, prompting the three main parties to attack her as they try to fight off the SNP's surging popularity.
Sturgeon, who says the claim is "categorically, 100%, untrue", had called on Cabinet Secretary Sir Jeremy Heywood to order a Whitehall probe into how the account of her conversation with the French ambassador was obtained by the paper, which he has now done.

Be very funny if what is claimed she said turns out to be true.

Would be funnier if it transpired the whole thing was plotted by Lynton Crosby from Tory Central Office, much as the 100 signatory letter was.
Conservative spin and smear campaign now in full swing, headed by the smearmaster Cri

Worth reading his Wiki page.

Re: Nicola Sturgeon Denies Telegraph Report She Wants David Cameron To Win Election
Is the leaked letter genuine?
The Foreign Office said they searched their files, and were "not aware of such a document". Translation: it’s not a fake. The Scotland Office are not so certain.
Their senior ranks said the letter was not a forgery, and it was "eminently possible" it came from them. Translation: the Telegraph’s description of the leaker as a "senior British civil servant" disguised its origins. The French consul did not say the election wasn't discussed, only that Ms Sturgeon had not revealed her "preference" on the outcome.
What does Sturgeon's office say?
The story, she says, is "categorically 100 per cent, untrue". Although stopping short of shouting "conspiracy" Scotland's First Minister called Whitehall "out of control" and a place where "political dirty tricks are manufactured". She called on the head of the UK Civil Service, Sir Jeremy Heywood, to carry out an urgent inquiry of the "false account".Who benefits from this leak?
Lots of people, arguably. At first glance it damages the SNP, and contradicts their demand to be part of a "progressive alliance" that locks David Cameron out of Number 10. That doesn't square with wanting five more Tory years.
Allegations of a unionist "conspiracy" that manufactures lies? That confirms what many nationalists already believe. The SNP as innocent victims of the UK playing dirty is a narrative they will positively use.
Ed Miliband called the leak "damning" and Jim Murphy, the Scottish Labour leader, called it a "devastating revelation".
The Scottish LibDems said "Now we know what she [Sturgeon] really thinks", and the Tories, obviously, were happy Sturgeon was backing Cameron. So all the main parties have already started using what it says.#]

Heywood is thorough. He will ruthlessly find the truth. This does smack of work by Crosby as he has a lot of form for underhand tactics and subtefuge.

French Consul General says it's a lie! Definitely Conservative dirty tricks and as an investigation is under way it could really backfire on them.

And to classify it as a "leak" is absurd
A Daily Telegraph report claims a leaked UK government memorandum - likely from the Foreign Office - sets out an account of a meeting between the SNP leader and the French ambassador to the UK Sylvie Bermann.
A uk "government"
bit vague .....................................holyrood or Westminster
likely from the Foreign Office
so westminster
Q why is a the Foreign Office privy to a meeting with the Scottish leader
sets out an account .....Really FFs an account of a tory wet dream more like because snp/tory.....NEVER going to happen ....Ever.....in the history of the universe from now till the seas dry up and the land is scorched ....nope never evere ever ever 10n/Q

I suggest you await to see the outcome, I think the way she has reacted provces the memo is true and believe made these comments as passing commenyts or they have been misconstrued by the individual who wrote up the memo. That is all we need to find out now as it is obvious there is a memo/letter. What ever happens the damage is done and who would stand best to gain out of the SNP losing support?
Labour, so if anyone had a part to play in this as would stand to gain the most on this with voters in Scotland.

Oh and why would the Foreign Offdice have it?
It is a conversation with a foreign offical the French Ambassador.
Hence of course it will be recorded by the Foreign Office
The Daily Telegraph said that her comments were recorded in a Foreign Office memo which described her conversation with the ambassador on 26 February this year.

Further proof to why if anyone it would be Labour behind all this as staright away they are onto the attack:
Miliband jumped into the controversy over the alleged Foreign Office memo as he tried to turn the row to his party’s advantage.
He said: “What it shows is that while in public the SNP are saying they don’t want to see a Conservative government, in private they are actually saying they do want a Conservative government. It shows that the answer at this general election is if you want the Conservatives out, the only answer is to vote Labour for a Labour government.”
Labour sources went even further accusing the Tories and SNP of being in an “unholy alliance” to boost the nationalists’ vote at the election. Scottish Labour leader Jim Murphy said it was a “devastating revelation that exposes the uncomfortable truth behind the SNP’s general election campaign”.
“For months Nicola Sturgeon has been telling Scots she wants rid of David Cameron yet behind closed doors with foreign governments she admits she wants a Tory government. If Scotland votes SNP in May then Nicola Sturgeon will get her wish – the Tories will be the largest party across the UK and David Cameron will return to Downing Street. Only a vote for Labour will deliver a Labour government.”
As seen, why would the Tories do this,?
What do they really gain here?
If she has said this the Tories then have the SNP lose face in Scotland and potential voters going to labour. So the Tories would in fact have far much more to lose off this letter, if Sturgeon is found to be lying.
This as seen has all the hallmarks of a Labour ploy, they stand to gain the most from it ahd the Tories could find Labour ends up with seats won in Scotland and thus more seats overall. The SNp could well lose votes if true being that the leader of the SNP backs the Tories, which will make people not trust here and vote Labour instead. That is why the chances of the Tories being behiind this is next to zero. The only real advantage the Tories could gain from this as if both Labour and the SNP fall out so badly they would not form a coalition. Sorry but that is even a lesser chance of happenning than the Tories being behind this as both Labour and the SNP would put aside their differences to ensure the Tories were unable to form a government.
From all the replied posts above, is shows how poor people look at things when they are biased.
I looked as seen above impartially,. hence why I came to plausible reality to all of this.
So of course the memo could be fake, which would lead to labour creating this and how best to throw the sent off?
By ensuring it is leaked to a Tory paper. So if it is fake, I have no doubt that someone from within Labour is behind this.
If it turns out to be true, well Sturgeon could have inadvertabntly help Labour win the election as she loses enough votes to Labour where they gain or retain seats.

Re: Nicola Sturgeon Denies Telegraph Report She Wants David Cameron To Win Election
Just read the sky repirt on thjs and low and beyold further proof now because even Miliband is playing on the one thing I have just talked about:
Labour leader Mr Miliband has warned wavering supporters in Scotland that if they vote SNP they risk handing power to the Tories, because they could end up as the biggest party in Westminster and therefore get the first chance to form a coalition.
He said on Saturday that the claims about his party's biggest rivals in Scotland, reported in the Telegraph, were "damning revelations".
Labour stand most to gain and even after she and the French Ambassador have denied talking about the next PM to be, Labour clearly do not believe them and are taking advantage of the situation to reach out to Scottish voters.
So easy to peace this together, unless of course you are a Labour supporter it seems.

Worth a read - especially the bit about him manipulating the media and being a master of underhand tactics and smear campaigns.
He has form and a history for doing this.
" Tactics
Crosby is described as favouring what is called a
wedge strategy, whereby the party he advises
introduces a divisive or controversial social issue
into a campaign, aligning its own stance with the
dissenting faction of its opponent party, with the
goal of causing vitriolic debate inside the opposing
party, defection of its supporters, and the
legitimising of sentiment which had previously been
considered inappropriate. This is also described as
"below the radar" campaigning, with the targeting of
marginal constituencies with highly localised
campaigning, latching on to local issues and
personalities. [1] To find such issues, Crosby's
business partner Mark Textor runs focus groups to
find which groups to target with what questions.
[16] Crosby is said to run a tight ship, focus on
simple messages, target marginal constituencies and
use lots of polls. [3]
His tactics have included:
During the 2001 Australian federal elections,
Howard government ministers falsely claimed that
seafaring asylum seekers had thrown children
overboard in a presumed ploy to secure rescue and
passage to Australia, and Howard, in the final days
of the campaign, launched a slogan that later grew
notorious: "We will decide who comes to this
country and the circumstances in which they come".

Wasn't half as funny as watching Nicola ripping the Westminster politicians to shreds in the debate. I suppose some had to try and show her as a bit of Jimmy Krankie but we expect that sort of reaction.
Well done Nicola
