Storm to hit England and Wales

Storm to hit England and Wales
People in England and Wales have been urged to prepare for the impact of the worst storms in years as gusts of up to 80mph are predicted to sweep across the southern regions from Sunday night.
The Met Office has issued an amber alert, advising people to "be prepared" for potentially hazardous conditions, with trees likely to fall and buildings at risk of damage.
Any structural damage could trigger power cuts and transport disruption, while the heavy rains could also cause surface water flooding.

...Well it's getting a bit gusty out there now but we will just have to wait and see what happens next! Certainly nothing like our good neigbours over the pond have had to deal with in recent times though.

I remember the 1987 big storm....Slept through the whole thing but a tree was blocking the main road so i couldn't get to work that day.

Re: Storm to hit England and Wales
We had a massive one just yesterday -- driving rain, flooding in a few areas, 60 mph (that's 96.6 km/h) and hail stones roughly this big:
Hope all our U.K. brethren are okay ...

Well it was very noisy for a while, but we didn't lose our garden fences which we were most worried about....Loss of power in 260,000 homes (not ours) and the train system is still not up and running due to trees blocking the lines.Ben_Reilly wrote:We had a massive one just yesterday -- driving rain, flooding in a few areas, 60 mph (that's 96.6 km/h) and hail stones roughly this big:

Two people killed by falling trees, so whilst those cases are tragic on the whole we had a very lucky escape and the 'storm' not 'hurricane' was nothing like 1987.
I found it ridiculous that they are giving the storm a bloody name! (that annoys me so i won't repeat it) It was a storm and nothing more!
