Spider that can give men four-hour erections found in Tesco bananas

Maria Layton, 43, says 'Tesco were a bit useless' when she found a Brazilian Wandering Spider - the most deadly in the world - in a bunch of shop bought bananas

A mother was scared stiff after opening a bunch of supermarket bananas and finding rare spiders whose bite can give a man a painful four-hour erection.

Maria Layton, 43, spotted the arachnids after opening the bag of yellow fruit she bought from Tesco.

She found the bananas, shipped from Costa Rica, were infested with eggs from the Brazilian Wandering Spider - the most deadly in the world.

As soon as she discovered the cocoon they started to hatch so she quickly put them in a sealed container in the freezer and called Tesco customer services.

The species is deadly and its venom can kill a human in just two hours - but can also give male victims a four-hour erection.

ANYBODY who knows anything about spiders (or the daily Telegraph's reputation [where "giant sea turtles" come to mind !] for that matter..) would have picked up on it's exaggerations in the first place...

AS the most poisonous spider in the world is the Blue Mountains sub species of the Sydney Funnel Web. (WHILE the Sydney Funnel Web is listed as #3 in the world, the Blue Mountains and Tasmanian sub-species of the Funnel Webs have actually had their venom tested and found to be more potent than those Brazilian Wandering and African Sand spiders listed at #1 and #2 respectively back in 2009/'10..).      http://10-most.com/the-top-10-most-venomous-spiders/

SECONDLY, I have to wonder how much truth is in the "popular press" claims that :
1.  It can kill within 2 hours (!) ~ fact is, that when somebody dies so quickly, they are either having an extra-bad allergic reaction on top of the normal toxicity of that bite; OR there may have been pre-existing underlying health problems, such as the victim dying from a heart attack;  and
2.   I also have to wonder about that "four hour erections" claim !   HAS anyone actually carried out any "clinical trials" on that claim, or is the Telegraph up to it's usual tricks of repeating such lascivious claims without checking ~ when more likely that claims is just more Brazilian braggadocio ?  

SOMETIMES I have to wonder if half of these snakes and spiders even exist in reality ~ or are simply the creation of internet practical jokers, and once the story gets a run in a "respectable" and legitimate mainstream newspaper(s), the very "existence" of some mythical creatures [OR, the acceptance of some quite exaggerated or nonsensical claims as to their toxicity or weird side-effects..] ~ becomes an urban myth "fact" simply through being repeated often enough !  
Similar claims surround the so-called "Two Step snake" in Africa, where some native tribes claim it kills within a few seconds (much, much quicker than a Taipan or a Cobra, which usually take several hours for a healthy adult victim to succumb..).

AS A FOOTNOTE : I also note from that 'top ten' list that I linked to above, that the Redback spider that bit me back in the late '70s, is rated as #5  !
