BANGLADESH’S victory sparked scenes of wild celebration for the Asian whipping boys’ millions of long-suffering fans.

Mohammad Mahmudullah smashed 103 to become the first Bangladesh player to make a World Cup century while brother-in-law Mushfiqur Rahim made 89 as the Tigers reached the quarter-finals for the first time.

This was Bangladesh’s third win over England in their last four one-day internationals, including the two-wicket success in Chittagong during the previous World Cup four years ago.

“I feel very proud,” said Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza.

On Monday night, England slumped to its fourth defeat of the tournament with a 15-run loss to Bangladesh, crashing out of quarter-final contention with still one pool game to play.

The commentator summed it up quite well, saying it was one of the greatest days in Bangladesh cricket history — but one of England’s worst.
