Barack Obama: Muslim elders too 'boring' to win Isil propaganda war
President Barack Obama has warned that Muslim community leaders are in danger of losing the propaganda war with the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (Isil) and are often too “boring” to prevent their young people from getting radicalised.
Paying Isil a back-handed compliment for the effectiveness of its gruesome social media outreach campaign, Mr Obama said it was imperative to reach young Muslims and address their social, political and economic grievances in a way that they understood.
“By the way, [to] the older people here - as wise and respected as you may be - your stuff is often boring,” he told a White House summit on combatting the rise of extremism, “compared to what they're doing. You're not connected. And as a consequence, you are not connecting.”
Mr Obama it was time to be “honest” that slickly-produced Isil videos of fighting scenes, beheadings other atrocities were succeeding in brainwashing young Muslims.

He has a very valid point there is nobody young and dynamic as a central voice within islam that is countering the extremism Rhetoric within Islam.

There is no 'central voice' to Islam. It does not have an overall leader.
For someone who professes to fight for equality, you don't half do a great job of being islamophobic on every board but Flap.

OMG, we know there is no central voice.
Hence why they need to have someone.
How the fuck I am being islamophobic you muppet?
Seriously brain dead idiots like you make the problem 100 times worse with your utter stupidity.

Why should they have a central voice when a central voice is something that is not part of their religion. Because you say so?
This thread does not make you islamophic, the overall tone of many of your threads put together does.

So you are saying religions cannot evolve?
Dont be daft, and if anything Islam needs a reformation.
Islamophobia does not exist.
Muslimphobia certainly exists, but unlike you I am critical of all religion and at present in the world one religion more than any needs progression and that is Islam.

Tell that to the hundreds of Jewish groups who stand against Israel and are ashemed of it.
ISRAEL is driving up anti-semitism the same way ISIL is driving up islamophobia

Both you and Isreael is driving such hatred yet you fail to see why and they are the least of the world problems or have you not been watching the news of late?
Seiously how many have die in Syria and Iraq due to islamic extremists groups?
There is no such thing as Islamophobia it is a con, because that is claiming you cannot be critical of a religion when you can, what there is though is Muslimphobia.
The fact is ISIS are not just one group of extremists, there is many and they are all proponents of Wahhabism.
There is the problem and it stems from Saudi.

Re: Barack Obama: Muslim elders too 'boring' to win Isil propaganda war
There has been a lot of talk in the media over here about whom, and what ISIL is. Most of the expert analysis says that ISIL is twofold: 1) an upper echelon of leaders and plotters; and 2) a lower level of soldiers and worker bees that do the fighting and dirty work.
The reason why you don’t find charismatic leaders is the same reason why you don’t hear much about the upper echelon altogether. They are all leftovers from the regime of Saddam Hussein and they are not very attractive. You certainly don’t want to put them up as Elvis or George Clooney. They are the murders and torturers left over from the Baath Party, and before they wrapped their heads in scarves and grew beards, they wore green and black military uniforms with colonel insignias and walked the corridors of prisons. They are experts in terror as they have been doing it all their life…hence, the media shows we have been subjected to, with heads being cut off and people being lit on fire. That’s just their thing.
The lower ranks are country folk, uneducated and probably unemployed too. Many are adventure-seekers and paroles from other countries, who are tired of being discriminated against by Tories and Republicans, etc. The religious mumbo-jumbo we keep hearing about is designed to feed them doctrine to keep them believing they are working for a cause (kinda like Republicans, in that way), and not just the jackboots above them.
The religious talk is also aimed at placing a patina of sacredness over the whole thing for world-wide consumption. The contemporary rants are related to, but aberrations of forgone radical religious theorists. In effect, the whole thing is like a mid-west Medicine Show from two centuries ago.

flip the question on it's head...
WHY would they?
If they are young and open to logic and reason from the west... why would they support a moderate religion? why would they stay in Islam? would they not become atheist/agnostics and believe in science?
SO are those young leaders aren't there because they are leaving Islam for science and secularism.. but I do think there is some element of that in Australia at least.. and from what I hear the youth in places like Iran are moving that way too...

Quite right. Wasn't that the analysis that came from the Egyptian experience? That the extreme religious beliefs and practices remained in the rural areas, but in the urban areas people were more interested in business and science?
But I still believe that ISIL is black with deceit to the core. A public and charismatic leader is the last thing they need. It would expose who they are. They were trained in the concepts of 'reward and punishment' and that's what they practice. Group dynamics is beyond them.
