The First Operational Hoverboard Has Arrived

Watch out wheels – your days are numbered. The first operational hoverboard has hit the ramps and it’s only a matter of time before we’re all Marty McFlying to work, school and around town. Well, sort of.
The Hendo Hoverboard was developed in Los Gatos, California, at Arx Pax by CEO, engineer and architect Greg Henderson. The company specializes in what Henderson calls Magnetic Field Architecture, so it should come as no surprise that the Hendo Hoverboard uses magnetic technology. A working prototype was unveiled recently.

The 90-pound Hendo Hoverboard uses four electromagnets on the bottom of the board to create a magnetic field that induces a secondary magnetic field on the ground that punches against it and allows it to hover frictionless about an inch above the surface. The technology is similar to that used by high-speed magnetic levitation trains.

Who would have thought we would actually get to this workable in our life times?

     THAT'S how those magnetic trains operate in Japan, Didgeri' ~ just that those trains are on a much larger scale...

THE basic technology is more than 50 years old (the 'MagLev' train has been operating commercially since the 1970s); the actual principles as old as people playing around with magnets..

NOTE the one obvious flaw with their concept, though :
"..to create a magnetic field that induces a secondary magnetic field on the ground."
As with the magnetic trains still needing their steel track, those "hoverboards" could only be used where the roadways and pathways have been prepared for them ~ or where the ground itself has a high enough iron content, so as to allow that requisite "secondary magnetic field" to form..

AND I'd also wonder about any potential stray EMF Radiation leakages around them ~ that could always conceivably interfere with radio/TV reception, WiFi and other electronics ?      

So now we just need to get working on mag-tracks -- and it will probably be the Chinese building them -- so it will oddly parallel the growth of railroads, at least in the U.S. ...
