Teenager on 'hoverboard' dies after being hit by a bus in Alperton
A 15-year-old boy has died after being hit by a bus while riding his 'hoverboard' in Alperton, west London.
The teenager, who has not yet been identified, died at the scene around 6.30pm on Thursday. Met Police confirmed he was riding a self-balancing scooter, also known as a Swegway or hoverboard, when he collided with the bus. Brent councillor James Denselow tweeted about the incident, saying he was “sad to hear” about the teenager’s death.
A spokesman for the Met Police said: “Officers attended and a 15-year-old boy was found seriously injured at the location. “He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. Next of kin have been informed. “Whilst officers believe they know who the deceased is they await formal identification. A post-mortem examination will be scheduled in due course.”
Self-balancing scooters are only allowed on private property, and it is illegal to ride them on public roads and pavements, according to the British Crown Prosecution Service. The CPS also views them as a motor vehicle, and would require registration and a vehicle registration licence. The person riding the hoverboard would also need a driving licence and motor insurance.

Poor lad and his poor family. May they find peace X
Have to say, I'm not sure this is a good enough reason the ban the hover boards? People get hit by cars and buses all the time...especially in London

Yes, they start fires. Several chain stores are refusing to sell them, including Walmart.
