I used to be Quite into Metal but
I have been finding I prefer happier music and more energetic music now.

I have a couple of Deep Purple albums here on the original vinyl LPs from back in those high school dayze of the 1970s..

Along with Status Quo, Led Zepp', Pink Floyd, Neil Young, some early Springsteen..

Um, guys? Maybe Metallica is more pop now, but they certainly were not in the ... And Justice For All or Master of Puppets days. They were about as hard as it came, and hadn't done a music video yet at that point.

Maybe heavier (mind you, I think of "heavy" in terms of punishing bass and guitar crunch) was Pantera, from my neck of the woods:
