"Surge" soda makes a comeback as an Amazon exclusive, sells out in hours

Never thought I'd see the return of Surge! It was great for all-night study or gaming sessions ...

Ready for a serious '90s flashback? Coca-Cola on Monday brought back Surge, its Mountain Dew-ish citrus-flavored soda, after a hiatus of about a dozen years. But it was only available on Amazon.com, where the drink has already sold out.

The Facebook group Surge Movement, which has lobbied for the drink's return since 2011, made the comeback announcement. Sean Sheridan, a founding member of the movement, said they received an email in April from Sandy Douglas, President of Coca-Cola North America, letting them know Surge was coming back. The Surge Movement then suggested they work together on the comeback.

"The same delicious flavor and your favorite original artwork from the '90s has returned!" the group wrote on its Facebook page.

The drink was exclusively available on Amazon.com in 12 packs of 16-ounce cans Monday morning, and sold out in a couple of hours.

Is it like Red Bull?

It's more like Coca-Cola's answer to Mountain Dew -- citrus flavored with a lot of caffeine. Both brands have kind of implied that they're energy drinks, in a way.

I also liked Diet Mountain Dew Code Red, though it's really hard to find anywhere:

not the same formula but Sprite is better

Apparently it was just in the U.S., but with a variant in Norway called "Urge."

It sounds gross and cheap and bloody vile.

My grand son brought me a bottle of DR PEPPER, never tasted any thing so vile.

eddie and Cass could always turn to the Red Bull and Chardonnay, instead !!!

Dr Pepper is one of those things you either love or hate. I didn't like it much when I first tried it, but tried it again many years later and like it quite a bit now.

just messing wit ya.....I had a DP with lunch......ate some great Vietnamese food with 2 girlfriends.....the Chili sauce was awesome.....and somewhat purgative
