Shocking footage of Australian police in riot gear removing children at 'gunpoint'

Social services and police have been criticised in Australia after footage emerged apparently showing officers dressed in riot gear raiding a home to remove multiple children from one family.
Footage was provided to Australia's National Indigenous TV (NITV) news show and the video showed the New South Wales police entering a home at around 6:30am earlier in the year to remove some young Aboriginal children.

The police were joined by the Department of Family and Community Services (FACS).

 
The parents who were awoken by the police told NITV that the officers' guns were pointed at them as they were then handcuffed while their children were removed from their car.

Over the top or reasonable?

don't know if it's "over the top" but I have read there's a lot of sexual abuse in Aboriginal families, don't know if that's true either. Perhaps our Australian posters can help.

READING the headline, you are led to think that it's the kids that are being removed at gunpoint..
FURTHER into the story though, it's stated that it was actually a couple of adults that had those guns pointing at them ~ quite a difference between the two different aspects !

WHETHER or not it was an 'OTT' action or a "reasonable" reaction depends on any past history with those parents ~ we simply don't know just how bad they are in reality..     
AS such I would withhold any judgment against those police actions until I had more info' about all of the adults present in the house at the time !      

AND, as an aside:  authorities must have had good cause as to help take those children into protection ~ despite the repetitive crappola that "her who should not be named" spreads in her infamous (and racist) vitriolic anti-Aboriginal threads earlier in the year, police no longer round up Aboriginal children on a mere whim. Haven't done so for near on 40 years now...

DESPITE those (semi-)regular ongoing lies that the witless and morals-free stirrers from the likes of the Independent, the Guardian and the Daily Mail have been peddling since the 1980s..

Unfortunately yes child abuse and neglect does occur at higher than average rates in the aboriginal communities.

In his case I think there may be more too it...  that sort of gear is normally only seen when they suspect guns etc.. and normally drug dealers.

looking at the video you can see the holes in the walls etc which suggest that it might actually be a violent home. I'm not normally one to stick up for police but I know for a fact they always prefer to use the 'softy softly' approach with aboriginals, So I am gonna say they had reason to be so armed (and the pics show shotguns and hand guns, no rifles)

Well, that was my question as well.  Your comment was adverse The Independent and not any one person.  God knows...we can trip over enough animosity 'round about, without going reaching for it.

NOTICE that the first photo' appearing in the "Independent" story has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with the story or the "raid" itself !

THAT photo' isn't from the TV report ~ but has been added by the reporter to 'beat up' their story further ==> giving a totally false and exaggerated image of what the cops looked like !

JUST MORE proof, as if any was needed these days, that "truth in reporting" is not part of the Independent's Mission Statement..
