The film "Noah"
First topic message reminder :
Anyone seen this? Watched it last night. It's got Russell Crowe in it as Noah and Ray Winstone, also my fave, Anthony Hopkins.
Really excellent take on the bible story and shows Noah in a slightly different light.
Well worth seeing.

Re: The film "Noah"
You guys do know that the story of Noah isn`t a Christian story, but a story hijacked from Gilgamesh
the Biblical Flood story is derived from the Mesopotamian version

To be fair just about every OT story has origins in even older mythologies, Jesus himself was hardly the first son of a god

Ah, horrible. Just out of line. But she is quite cute
Re: The film "Noah"
My opinion of her changed when I read a book entitled "Hermione does Hogwarts".
she is actually turning into a decent actress now she is doing more adult stuff.

Another Biblical blockbuster due out is Exodus by Ridley Scott, looks great :-)
NO, not quite...
EVEN though the story is a myth, and could never have happened; the setting for the story would be pre-Judaism ~ actually one of those faiths that led up to Judaism.
Actually they are pretty sure that is comes from one of the 'Low country' Ancient Germanic Tribal religions
Which makes sense as that region is under sea level and have completely flooded at least twice in recorded history....
http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/349663/Low-Countries
Although it is quite possible that a smaller region somewhere in middle east north Africa also has this trait and is the inspiration
Flood tales are VERY common

Also interesting
Aten (atum) the Egyptian one god of the sun disc that was outlawed (And PRE-Moses, probably inspired Moses's one god)
People have become rebellious. Atum said he will destroy all he made and return the earth to the Primordial Water which was its original state. Atum will remain, in the form of a serpent, with Osiris. [Faulkner, plate 30] (Unfortunately the version of the papyrus with the flood story is damaged and unclear. See also Budge, p. ccii.)
Even From Australia
Bunjil, the creator, was angry with people because of the evil they did, so he caused the ocean to flood by urinating into it. All people were destroyed except those whom Bunjil loved and fixed as stars in the sky, and a man and a woman who climbed a tall tree on a mountain, and from whom the present human race is descended. [Gaster, p. 114]
A giant frog once swallowed all the water, and no one else could get anything to drink. After many other animals failed, eel, with his remarkable contortions, made the frog laugh, releasing the water. Many were drowned in the flood. The whole of mankind would have perished if the pelican had not picked up survivors in his canoe. [Roheim, p. 156; Gaster, p. 114]
