A Common Link Among Female Criminals: Brain Injury

Nearly 40 percent of women in prison in Ontario, Canada, have suffered a traumatic brain injury (TBI), according to a study published this month in the Journal of Correctional Health Care.
The study, the first to look at the rate of TBIs among prison populations in Canada, contributes to a growing body of evidence associating blows to the head with a multitude of long-term, negative health outcomes, from homelessness and substance abuse to risky behavior and incarceration.
In revealing the high rate of TBIs among people in prison, particularly among female inmates, the research team hopes to raise awareness of a widespread yet overlooked public health problem.

Yes, and head trauma is also linked to alcoholism. So it's two-pronged: (1) increased anger and negative mind-set issues; and (2) standard exacerbation secondary to alcohol.

Gawd! My mum recently had a TBI.
She's not a drinker and has probably never so much as stolen a pen from the office lol

and yet another excuse is found not to punish female miscreants...
as if pms (mad cow disease) isnt regularly used
along with depression over this that and the other....

Meh...this needs more research...or extant research brought to light. I have experienced it with certain clients, but I have nothing but my experience...and you can't generalize from specifics.
Particularly with the alcoholism, this is another item in the general debate between rational responsibility and mental illness.
