[ltr]Apollo 11 landed on the Moon 45 years ago this weekend - but it's sometimes all to easy to forget that this amazing thing actually happened.[/ltr]
[ltr]And yes, it did actually happen conspiracy fans.[/ltr]
[ltr]To celebrate the remarkable achievement of Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins and Buzz Aldrin, we've compiled this selection of 45 amazing photographs from the Apollo 11 mission.[/ltr]
[ltr]We could have included many more. You know. Because they were mostly taken on the Moon.[/ltr]

@nicko, amazing isn't it that the technology in an avrrage Smartphone today is multiple times more advanced than that whuch put man on the moon. I think so anyway
What is sad though is the relatively halting advance of man in space since then. I guess when the competition vanished the US ran out of interest...

in a way you arenicko wrote:Am I correct in saying they did it with no more computer savvy that was on a mobile phone?
A mobile phone has vastly more power than the Appolo module
The best comparison would be a fairly modern washing machine
ps and remember it was 3-16 bit systems

The computer had 2048 words of erasable magnetic core memory and 36 kilowords of read-only core rope memory. Both had cycle times of 11.72 micro-seconds. The memory word length was 16 bits: 15 bits of data and 1 odd-parity bit. The CPU-internal 16-bit word format was 14 bits of data, 1 overflow bit, and 1 sign bit (ones' complement representation)
