Toddler Fatally Shot In Head By Own Father

The man dumps his weapon in a garbage can and flees the scene after hitting his son during a dispute with the boy's mother.

A man has killed his two-year-old son after shooting him in the head during a domestic dispute with the child's mother.

The boy's father was having an argument when he walked out of his house in Cleveland, Ohio. He then turned around and fired one shot, hitting the child.

The boy, identified as Derrice Alexander Jr, was taken to a hospital, where he died.

Police said his father, Derrice Alexander, dumped his weapon in a garbage can and fled the scene. He was later arrested.

The killing appeared to be an accident.

But Police Chief Calvin Williams said the man is a convicted felon and should not have had the weapon.

He said the shooting was a tragedy that might have been prevented if someone who knew about the weapon had called police.

"We have to change the culture one person at a time, one incident at a time," Mr Williams said.

Local TV station WOIO said the boy's mother was apparently unhurt.

The couple also have a one-year-old child who was not home at the time.

Oh no, that is horrible and I was going to say how awful he maybe feels or really does...but to flee the scene just shows he was. Ire bothered about being arrested than any feeling for his son at the time,,


Lost for words, this is awful and I'm trying to picture that happening with my bairns...but I would never have a gun near them anyway...

A convicted felon with a gun,...

Yet some are making ridiculous claims that gun laws need relaxed.

because they can steal them from legal owners   

no actually...theres very little of that...some shotguns get stolen every year...(MAINLY from firearms dealers it has to be said)
HAND GUNS are the problem...and few if any "legit owners"out there since they are banned....

there are few if any legit hand gun owners.
so any that are there are from abroad...smuggled in or are "legacy " stuff frome times back
few crimes are commited with shotguns
few shotguns are stolen from individulas
what shotguns are stolen from RFD's usually end up abroad for profit.

but then...to the brain dead a spud gun is a firearm
and ANYTHING with a barrel and stock is heckler and koch
and anything with a barrel longer than 14 inches is a howitzer...

I agree about hand guns

not actually sure about the rest in the UK

here often it is rifles stolen that then have the barrels cut down to make them 'handgun like'   

and yeah, Shotguns are pretty rare in serious crime   

cut down rifles dont seem to be an issue here it has to be said
