Thanks, I find it really interesting. I know Bergdahl absconded but from the reports is sounds like he was really upset about what was happening to children, and the medical report after he was released showed his had been kept in bad, dark conditions.

Re: U.S.-Taliban Prisoner Exchange
Before he became a Taliban prisoner, before he wrote in his journal “I am the lone wolf of deadly nothingness,” before he joined the Army, Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl was discharged from the Coast Guard for psychological reasons, said close friends who were worried about his emotional health at the time.
you might find this of intrest as well seems he was given a waver to joing the army even though he had been discharged from the coastguard for pycological reasons

Re: U.S.-Taliban Prisoner Exchange
That's crazy, how can someone who had mental health problems in the Coastguard be expected to cope with the horrors of Afghanistan?
“I’m worried,” he wrote in one journal entry before he deployed. “The closer I get to ship day, the calmer the voices are. I’m reverting. I’m getting colder. My feelings are being flushed with the frozen logic and the training, all the unfeeling cold judgment of the darkness.”
What were they thinking of, never mind, more cannon fodder?

I don't put much stock in this. "Psychological reasons" covers a lot of territory. It could be that Bergdahl had an overeating problem and the Coast Guard didn't want to pay for the food. His acceptance by the Army would be consistent, because they have much more food on hand. They have a greater budget than the CG.
I am in fact pointing out how absurd this argument is. We have no idea what "psychological reasons" means, and we have no justification for jumping to conclusions that have no basis in fact. It's a classic smear by use of ambiguous words.
BTW, I'm not being critical for raising it, T. It is important to get this argument out in the open, if only to knock it down.

A really excellent post, Ben. Good research.
I might add to the section over who these released prisoners are, they were never charged, never tried and never convicted of anything. If America is that afraid of following its own laws, it suggests that all of these so-called terrorists were innocent Muslims picked up by the previous (Republican) administration, in an attempt to trump up bad guys. After all, this is the same Republican administration that trumped up WMDs in Iraq, death panels in the Affordable Care Act, and Obama is a Muslim.
Oh, and one report says that one of these detainees was a used car salesman. Now that is a punishable offense. Perhaps we'll see him again at Abdul's Previously Owned Gems car lot, in East LA. That's a possible terrorist threat.

Seriously, a lot of the original detainees were picked up simply for (literally) being in the vicinity of a suspect; I think one was actually a sheep herder.
