UKIP Now The Country's Second Party
6th June 2014
When will Miliband (did i spell that right Benji? lol) get the message and leave to give Labour a chance?
David Cameron today admitted the Tories have more to do to defeat UKIP, despite romping home to victory in the Newark by-election.
The Prime Minister warned the Conservatives 'the job isn't finished yet' on hammering home key messages on the economy, tax cuts and jobs.
Tory candidate Robert Jenrick held on to the Nottinghamshire seat with a majority of 7,403, halting the march of UKIP's People's Army which Nigel Farage had boasted was on the verge of securing its first MP.
Labour's Michael Payne was pushed into third place with 6,842 votes, ahead of independent candidate Paul Stephen Baggaley, who finished with 1,891, and the Green Party's David Kirwan who attracted 1,037 votes.
It was a disastrous night for the Liberal Democrats however, whose candidate David Watts was beaten into a humiliating sixth place, barely scraping 1,000 votes.
However the Tory majority was more than halved from 16,000 in 2010, with Ukip surging from a distant fifth place in that election, taking an additional 10,000 votes this time around.
Downing Street will hope that the result will quell fears on the Tory backbenches that the party can hold back the UKIP tide at the general election in May 2015.
But speaking in Bayeux ahead of D-Day commemoration events, Mr Cameron said more had to be done to tackle the threat from UKIP in the run-up to the 2015 general election.
He told reporters: 'We need to work between now and the next election to say very clearly we have got a long-term plan, we are getting Britain back to work, we are cutting people's taxes, we are helping hard-working people.
'The job isn't finished yet but we are on the right track, let's stick at it.'

Re: UKIP Now The Country's Second Party
The party saw off a strong challenge from Ukip to retain the Nottinghamshire constituency, but saw its majority cut from more than 16,000 to 7,403.
The Tory candidate, Robert Jenrick, was elected with 17,431 votes and 45 per cent of the vote after the party poured massive resources into defending Newark, which was among its 50 safest seats at the last general election.

..this was the expected result anyway Scrat, with the Tory majority being eaten into, doesn't take much for Andy to get excited,
So Andy do you think we will see a UKIP government in the foreseeable future?
Just a yes or a no will do chief.

Re: UKIP Now The Country's Second Party
So UKIP pretty much swallowed half of the Tories majority. IF that occurs again next year across the board then I'm sure Ed will send Farage a thank you note as he moves into Number 10

I still think many will vote Tory though Eilzel BECAUSE of this ,but at least a good few will still help Labour by voting UKIP

Hi Elizel
That is the point, because UKIP supporters are basically biting off their nose to spite their face. They will vote being more concerned of gaining a couple of seats, thinking this is some victory, whilst putting Labour into power, who with the economy growing would capitalize on this, gaining further support which UKIP supporters are clueless too.
Their best chances of an EU referendum is with the Tories and not with Labour, their best chances of immigration control are with the Tories and not labour. UKIP will not win enough seats to make any difference, because they will mainly take the conservative vote, thus ending any hope of achieving any of the goals they want. That is what you call stupidity at its best

You are assuming that UKIP voters would prefer the Conservatives over Labour Didge.
lol
The Conservatives are just as disgusting.

They do , all the last elections reflect this, as Labour has gained, thus you are by your vote going to put labour back in power, to then have to listen to you whinge and moan about it when you and others made it happen, because you want to bite off your nose to spite your face.

No idea, not really concerned being as it was a safe Tory seat, where the vast majority of people voted for RW, that vote being split and if this is replicated, then in marginal seats Labour will gain many and you will then have no referendum on the EU or any immigration control, too major policies of UKIP.

Re: UKIP Now The Country's Second Party
Nigel IMO appeals to the same voters as were attracted to Maggie and then Tony.
Alot of labour went to Maggie and alot of Tory went to Tony.
That is why he is taking from both sides. And the ones who always want to vote but can't vote Tory or liebour used to vote Lid dens. Now many are voting UKIP too. If PR was our electoral system I reckon he might hold the balance of power in the House.
DC still has a long way to go to convince the Conservatives he is the right man for the job.

I agree gerber.
I think most of England believe Dave is far too left wing.

Hi Gerber
The local elections though show this is not really the reality, yes he has popular votes, but come a general election he will face his hardest test, to win over people as to having viable policies and no matter how much people go on about how immigration and the EU is to them, when it comes down to the crunch every time in a general election, people will be swayed to vote for who is going to put money in their pocket.
That is why UKIP will not do as well as people will expect, as I doubt he will deliver that belief.

The Lib Dems have had it,they have actually had it.No one is going to vote for them. They have been seen to be making a pact with the Devil and went back on all their promises.
In alot of ways they have reigned in the more severe Tory legislation but that won't be enough to appease their one time voters who feel betrayed.
