Pity the rich because their life simply stinks
Only someone blinded by their own bling could fail to see why a chasm is opening up between those who aren’t rich and those who stink of it.
Why ordinary workers who are suffering, officially, the most savage pay cuts of modern times, stare in anger at the eye-popping rewards for the failures at the top.
Why groups like StopG8 took to London’s streets this week to “target the dens of the rich like Claridge’s, Annabel’s and Boodle’s private club”.
And why ultimately their protest is futile.
Because the sad truth is, asking the rich to stop getting richer is like asking baron’s son-in-law Iain Duncan Smith how someone on £80 a week can survive when he takes £14 of it away from them.
All you get back is a contemptuous sneer and the rebuke that you’re consumed with the politics of envy.
A far better question about the rich, especially around this time of year, is why anyone would seriously want to be anything like them.
Because in these summer months when the Pimms-fest for the terminally unemployed known as The Season gets into full swing, I look at rich kids and think I’d rather have been one of Josef Fritzl’s offspring.
I’ve seen them at Royal Ascot, Henley and Cowdray Park, dressed in their ludicrous outfits, networking with their backs to the sporting action, swapping tales about skiing hols, with some hoping for a spot of top-stock inter-breeding which may lead to a society wedding.
They’re all over the place right now.
The joining together of chinless wonders called Chlamydia and Hercules-Hyphen-Hyphen, who all seem to be kow-towing to either Harry or Wills.
Do you seriously envy them and their ancestral piles (which can be very painful)?
And they’re just Old Money. The nouveau riche are even more pitiful.
They’re the ones who try to ape the aristos during The Season but neck so much bubbly they end up acting like, well, apes.
Who could be jealous of such materialistic caricatures?
I spotted two court cases about them on the same newspaper page this week.
A family at war over the £2.3million will of a father who tried to avoid inheritance tax, and a company director who stole £12.5million from his own firm to keep up with the jet-setters.
What sad wretches.
Talking about sadness, right now in the South of France is the biggest advert for staying non-rich – the (pre-nup fenced) wedding of Bernie Ecclestone’s daughter, Tamara, to some merchant banker who she met about five minutes ago.
Ten million smackers blown on a four-day binge of tack that looks like a bun-fight on a joint location shoot between the cast of TOWIE and Geordie Shore.
Sarah Ferguson’s gals were invited to give it “royal approval” (seriously) and Paris Hilton to give the paps some A-Lister (seriously) baps to focus on.
Imagine having to creep around the odious Bernie Ecclestone, literally stooping lower than you ever thought possible, to kiss his ass for giving you a private plunge pool and close-up glimpse of Lionel Richie’s tonsils?
Imagine having to mingle with a shower of orange wannabe ITV3 presenters, reality trash and City brokers, having to kiss Botoxed cheeks and trout-pouted lips and listen to their vacuous anecdotes about Lamborghinis and Louboutins as they snap fingers at a slave-wage waitress for another glass of Krug.
Smash the Rich? Is it OK if I just pity them?

What really gets my goat is how the working classes have been demonised in this country for what has been a problem caused by the worldwide bankers that gambled the world wide economies away.
In this country the RW press has been relentless in blaming people who have to rely on welfare to make ends meet whilst refusing to accept that many people are in work and are so poorly paid that they have to rely on top up welfare payments to make ends meet towards their rent and council tax etc.
It's just a diversion imo to stop people from thinking about the real culprits for the world wide crisis which are the rich elite.

Stinks, it is an illness
Millions on a wedding? Gone in one day, do they not see the suffering that is going on. Can they not help out a little here at least.
Look at this story from last year. When most of UK was trembling, if they would still have a roof over their heads with oncoming cuts to health housing, schools, unemployment and disability benefits.
£203,948 bill, including the £125,000 charge for the giant bottle of Armand de Brignac champagne. Two waiters were required to carry the 99lb double Nebuchadnezzar-sized bottle. Painted in gold I might add.
