EU to bug every car in UK with tracker chips – and Ministers admit they are powerless to stop the Big Brother technology
Every new car sold in Britain will have to have a ‘black box’ device fitted to track drivers’ movements from next year, under plans being imposed by the European Union.
Despite serious concerns about privacy and cost, UK ministers admit they are powerless to stop the Big Brother technology being forced on motorists and car makers.
The Government believes the gadget, designed to help emergency services find crashed vehicles, will add at least £100 to the cost of vehicles without providing significant safety improvements.
Officials also fear the scheme, known as eCall, could be used by police or insurance companies to monitor motorists’ every move.

I am sure didge will pop up to reassure us that it wont really happen and even what does happen is absolutely necessary for the greater good.

Anyone who is against this is obviously a big evil criminal with massive stashes of paedophilic pornography.
Why else would you have a problem with it, right?

If you buy a new car after the date they eventually put this in place then it probably will.
MEPs voted this through and Nigel Farage, Dan Hannan, Geoffrey Bloom and Nick Griffin didn't are a few of the British MEPs that didn't even bother to vote.
100 Euros on the price of the car to save a life. Might be worth it, especially if it's yours.

Forget it and stop trying to turn this on the poster. I'm giving you facts about who didn't vote and what the cost may be in saving a life. People can decide for themselves whether it's for the greater good so don't assume that numbers are on your side.

I think we should implant tracking chips in everyone at birth as well as tattooing bar-codes on everyone for easy identification.
Would stop crime dead in it's tracks!

I agree it is progressive to have something that could save lives, sadly though some always try to deny saving lives based off poor claims to how something made be used and think of how this will also tackle car crime, hey ho people always use the negatives and fail to see the many positives

What was voted through was specifically amended to cover use only for emergency services.
So let's rip out airbags from cars so that they are cheaper. Would that your stance?

Yes that's why I advocate the wearing/using of protective equipment I mentioned earlier.
Much more likely to save lives as it will help prevent the injuries in The first place.
And won't be monitoring my every move and sending to big brother state dictatorship.

I agree on wearing protective gear, what has this though got to do with you being against a measure that could save lives?

Sillyness. No-one would object to airbags - they don't impinge on your privacy do they? And these chips can be bought, if you make the choice. Try looking that word up in the dictionary: c-h-o-i-c-e. It doesn't appear to be in the socialist big brother vocabulary, except maybe as an offensive term.Irn Bru wrote:Tommy Monk wrote:Back so soon dodge.....?

It's not about saving lives, it's about monitoring your every move by a big brother dictatorship state, but bringing it in under the guise of being about saving lives.....!
Well if it's my car and I'm driving it then it's my choice if I want this or not, as it's my life and it's up to me!

You can already track people by their cellphones, so again it is a moot argument.
Again lets weigh up the balance of arguments here.
Saving lives and helping fight crime against a claim of which has not been proven that it could be used to track people
Non-argument, saving lives will always be more important

The EU's own web page says it could be used for all the things listed.
And all you're doing is dancing on the head of a pin about the use/meaning of the word 'could'
Do you seriously think that all these other things that it has been designed to be used for won't ever be used.......???!!!

Yes it could, that does not mean it will and again you are making a poor argument off its true intent which is to save lives or fighting crime, which it seems you deem less important.

Says the man who wants to stop police targeting people in stop and search who match the descriptions of reported criminals.....!
If it's my car and my life, It is my choice.
But this is really about tracking you, movements and sendidg to a big brother dictatorship state.
And mobile phones are not compulsory, you can choose to have one or not, and choose to have a registered contract in your name or unregistered pay as you go, You can also choose to turn it on or off for any amount of time you want, and also choose to leave it at home or anywhere else whenever you want.
And shady, unfortunately yes still posting shit.
The prognosis is not good....!

Yes I think it is wrong for the Police to use skin colour as a means to stop and search and most people with common sense agree on that, though here it would be used to obtain helping recover stolen cars, so that has no comparison what so ever.
So you find saving lives of less importance than a claim, notice that word a claim to something that has not been stated it will happen, now that is absurd if I ever heard anything.

Yeah, it could eventually be used for insurance and the police and you can bet that the government would back that because you may get your car back quicker and your insurance cost may even go down.
Sorry, Tommy, if you buy a new car after the implementation date then you will be having one in your car. Unless of course Dave can include an opt out under his reforms for the EU
