DWP Accepts BigAndy9's Recommendations (Again) & Investigates White Dee
6th May 2014
White Dee is facing a probe into her disability benefits after being pictured cavorting with friends on holiday in Magaluf – while claiming to be too depressed to work.
The star of controversial TV Show Benefits Street has admitted to claiming Disability Living Allowance (DLA), which is given to those too unwell to look after themselves day-to-day.
But Dee, whose real name is Deirdre Kelly, was pictured energetically downing shots and pints of beers, while playing games with friends on a trip to Magaluf in Majorca last week.
And while the criteria for being eligible for DLA include needing help cooking a main meal, her agent Barry Tomes last night told the Daily Mail that 42-year-old Dee is currently considering an offer to front a new cookery show.
‘What many people don’t know about Dee is that she is an amazing cook and has been offered her own cookery show,’ he said.
Other criteria to claim the DLA include needing ‘help with things like washing, dressing, eating, using the toilet or communicating your needs’.
The unemployed mother of two also claims she is too depressed to work.
But she is now set to face questions from the Department for Work on Pensions on her eligibility to receive the benefit and whether or not she is fit to work.
Under the current benefits regime, the reality TV star is allowed to undertake work and keep claiming DLA, which is a minimum of £21 a week.

The video doesn't work where White Dee discusses her depression but the woman is national television with ease and displays no signs of anxiety.
I can't believe she is able to get DLA,she doesn't fit that criteria.I do believe she is one of the TINY amount of fraudsters in this country. But again she is just one woman, and therefore she is no refection on the genuine benefits claimants.

It wouldn't matter if 99% of claimants were frauds - you are correct, they are no reflection on the genuine claimants, of which there are some and they should get the correct help.

But Andy if you know people like her are not a reflection of genuine claimants why do you have such a problem with benefit claimants if you know they are deserving?

The question is - how many others are going unchecked? This woman has been exposed because she was on the telly, otherwise nobody would have noticed.

How long have you been posting here Fluffy?
If you had seen my posts over the past 4 years you would know i don't have "such a problem with benefit claimants".
Unfortunately i suspect you have not been reading my posts, instead you have been reading the posts of others about me.

I wish the bloody DM would learn the difference between out of work benefits and disability benefits - not that it makes a blind bit of difference in this case
DLA which is being replaced by PIP is a disability benefit which is paid regardless of whether a person is in work or not and is designed to make up the inevitable costs of disability so a disabled person can enjoy a similar standard of living to a non disabled person with the same income before the benefit is awarded.
I cannot see how Dee would have qualified for this benefit at any point under any circumstances. I am shocked that she might be getting it.
ESA is an out of work benefit designed to cover everyday living costs for someone who is too ill to work and is the equivalent to JSA. It is slightly higher in the recognition that people who are ill will be spending longer periods at home resulting in higher heating and utility bills. Someone on JSA can reasonably be expected to leave their home and spend the day at the local library using the computers to look for work and therefore not need to heat their home. Someone who is sick cannot be expected to do the same.
