stuck with unelected leaders. They are more like leeches, sucking the blood out of each nation they latch onto.

Just where and how will this all end.

I've never been able to understand how people can go about their daily business with all that's going on in some places. I think part of it is that it requires so much effort just to earn a decent living anymore. People just don't have the time and energy to get involved very much.

I'd be marching in the streets about this NSA surveillance crap if I didn't have to worry about earning my paycheck ...

Some Republicans are trying to blame Obama for this, but it's basically been in effect since 9/11.
When I worked for AT&T/Lucent, the cellular company in in the late '80's and '90's I installed equipment for had an electronic cabinet in the MTSO that belonged to the FBI. It was full of surveillance equipment for listening in on cellphone calls. The government has always had ways of tapping phones. It used to require a warrant, but not anymore.

I've been telling Republicans -- rather than trying to blame this on Obama, why don't we use the fact that neither of us like this to make a positive difference in our country and the world? Some of them apparently think the political football game is more important than that, though.

Here in Cambodia the PM has elevated himself to demigod status. He said that him and his family are like the angels in heaven, and that after his death, the title of PM would stay in his family forever and would not be allowed to go to another family.
He kicked all competition out of the country and won't let them back in, and if you don't vote for him, you get in trouble. The country now has zero free speech, the govt is raping the people. I'm predicting another revolution here in the next 10 years, and as usual it will probably be bloody.

I lived in sub Sahara for over a decade...Cambodia is candy land in comparison. There will be many opportunities to escape if violence erupts so no worries.
